..Sabu Adeyola has been an innovator since the beginning of his career. Widely known for his work as bassist for the Ahmad Jamal Trio, Gary Burton and bebop favorite, the late Al Tinney; he has also played sideman for Randy Weston, Dexter Gordon, Abbey Lincoln, Donald Byrd, Charlie Byrd, Moses Alison, Lee Konitz, Frank Foster, Leon Thomas, George Adams Cassandra Wilson, Flip Phillips, Joe Ford, Barry Harris, Charles Davis, Charles Gayle, Mark Murphy, Charles Mingus and many, many others… ..Having started as a pianist with his group with Joe Ford/alto and Reggie McQuillian/congas and Juini Booth/bass, Sabu moved to Germany. While in Germany, it was there where Sabu decided the bass would be his musical medium. ..Upon returning to the States Sabu obtained three degrees from the State University of New York at Buffalo. It was here that he would study with, his mentor and friend the late Great Charles Mingus who coincidently had always been his biggest influence on his music. ..Always keeping true to the music medium set for himself, Sabu as a jazz philanthropist/organizer has has founded and directed many idioms in his native Buffalo, NY. These including the Association for Jazz Performance (AJP), Sabu Adeyola School of Music (2004) and the Association for the Advancement of Creative Art (AACA); whose advisory members were Max Roach, Pat O’latrick, Ron Carter, Al Tinney, and Abbey Lincoln. ..Most recently, Sabu officiates over his school and an continues to perform, compose and author books of on the history and significance of both Jazz music and as a religious leader. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. ..
