Sac Au Lait is a group of misfits that play traditional and not-so-traditional dixieland jazz in and around Baltimore. They have been swingin' for over five years and continue to do all types of gigs, from street playing to weddings. Over the past few years, Sac Au Lait has enjoyed a rewarding partnership with Charm City Swing, through accompanying dancers at the Fells Point Fun Fest, Austin Grille, and Johns Hopkins University. In 2008, the band performed on stage at Artscape, embarked on a short summer tour of New England, and was featured as the main act at the Creative Alliance Lantern Parade in Baltimore. They still hold down a regular gig, appearing on the 1st Thursday of every month at Joe Squared on North Ave. Although the band name literally means 'sack of milk' in French, the Sac-Au-Lait, better known as the White Perch or White Crappie, is the official freshwater fish of the state of Louisiana.
"If you're planning on hosting a swinging 20s party anytime soon, I have a recommendation. Instead of just playing 1920s CDs, why don't you hire Sac Au Lait? My friend hosted a '20s party this past weekend, and three members of Sac Au Lait dropped by to perform a short set in her kitchen. The only instruments were a snare drum, trombone and banjo. But oh boy did these guys swing. I gave them bonus points for dressing the part."
