Influences
Hi-Los, Take 6, New York Voices, Manhattan Transfer, Pat Matheny, JD Walter, The Real Group, Singers Unlimited, Kurt Elling, and many others.
The vocal jazz program at Sacramento State is under the direction of Kerry Marsh. The program consists of the Jazz Singers, C-Sus and Vox 2, all of which are formed by audition. The sounds of Sac State Vocal Jazz are influenced by the great vocal jazz groups of the past and present: The Hi-Lo's, Singers Unlimited, Take 6, New York Voices, The Real Group, Manhattan Transfer and others. However, the program strives to explore new, innovative approaches to contemporary vocal jazz.Although much of the study focuses on group sound, improvisation and solo singing are also important aspects of the program, with a thriving bachelor's program in jazz studies/voice. Jazz voice majors (currently eleven in the program) study privately with the outstanding jazz vocal artist Julia Dollison, the most recent addition to our program.
Every semester each group continues to develop and broaden their repetoir and knowledge of music theory and jazz music. The Jazz Singers and C-Sus continue to achieve numerous awards and invitations to sing around the country. Most Recently, C-Sus performed at the IAJE international jazz festival in New York City. They look forward to branching out on an international level and making a splash in the jazz scene with their latest album, It's You.
Sacramento State Vocal Jazz's Friend Space (Top 20)
Watch out our next concert on Saturday, June 21, 2008 & Sunday June 22, 2008. For more information, feel free to visit our website at www. SacramentoMensChorus. org
I’m very excited that you are interested in participating in the Fête de la Musique on Saturday June 21st this year in Sacramento. This message will provide some more details and explain where to find more information. If you are not interested in participating as a artist or a venue consider deleting me as your friend, I won’t take it personally :-)
This music festival is like no other festival you’ve ever played at or attended. There is no central organization committee, no one to tell you that you can’t participate; it’s completely open to every one, orchestras, bands, choral groups, solo artists, marching bands, and amateur musicians of any genre; and it can happen everywhere!
The stage of the event is the entire City of Sacramento. The limited coordination for the event is happening through the Sacramento Community Wiki web site (http://sacwiki. org/fete) where you can list yourself as a performer or as a hosting venue. It's a Wiki page, simple to edit. If you do any Myspace stuff, it will be easy for you to figure it out quickly, you just need to register and log in. It’s free, you can even add your band’s information to the music scene section. If you can’t figure it out please send me the information and I’ll add it.
Details are laid out on the Wiki site. To be informed on what will happen on June 21st, you should also register to be on the “announce list”. Just send a blank email to fete-announce-subscribe@sacramentocacophony. org. This is a very low traffic announce list that we will use to provide crucial information updates (like new street fair locations, or areas closed to performances) as they become available.
If this whole thing excites you too and if you have time to help, feel free to join the discussion list by sending a blank email to fete-discuss-subscribe@sacramentocacophony.org. This is a higher t

No Prob. I love your songs that you sing. They're pretty amazing, and the blend of all of your voices is so pure. My school's jazz choir uses a lot of Kerry Marsh's arrangements.
