Some have said our vocals sound like ABBA, or Wilson Phillips... Our music is mainly soft rock with some African influences (african drums, beats & sounds).
Sacred Desire with its unique sound and mystical lyrics is the result of an exciting, profound, sometimes painful and always hopeful adventure. The duo Anneke Lemmer and Zelda Nera were born in South Africa where they met and started performing together in 1994. Zelda has been involved in music (singing, piano, guitar, recitals, and choirs) since the age of 5 and was one of the main worship leaders and the Vocal Director/Coordinator at Cottonwood Christian Center in Los Alamitos, CA from 2003 - 2007. Anneke has been active in the performing arts (dancing, singing, acting and choirs) since she was 8 years old.
With music and performing as the key passion directing their decisions Anneke and Zelda met while performing separately at a concert and started what would become a friendship that would guide them through the hardships and opportunities of pursuing a career in music. They later formed a 5 member girl band and as key vocalists and dancers they frequently appeared on national television and toured doing concerts throughout South Africa performing at large concerts, schools, universities, fares and youth events. They also had the opportunity to perform in female prisons, rehabilitation centers and juvenile detention centers.
Since childhood it had been a dream of both of them to travel to the USA and pursue a music career. In September 1998 Anneke and Zelda visited CA which proved to be life defining. 3 months later they decided to sell everything and relocate to LA. They arrived; two girls with a big dream and all their worldly possessions in 2 suitcases. The constant drive of their dream to deliver a sound that spoke to the very core of their audience was the saving grace that kept them through what proved to be a process of extremes.
The Journey took them to what others may have considered breaking point or failure which included at one point being just about homeless and living in a storage room with holes in the roof and no bathroom, to sleeping in a music studio on a single mattress, surrounded by gear. Through all the heartache and despair their music remained their priority, focus and passion. While the girls were involved in many indie projects, this passion (to have people connect with their music in authenticity) was the birthing place of their own unique sound and name Sacred Desire.
In 2004 they met drummer Shawn Taylor and bassist Pasqualle De Rosa and things started looking up as they started working on their own recording developing their sound. Today, Sacred Desire is based in the OC and are more than just on their feet; they are riding on crest of new open doors. With their CD in it’s final stretch to completion, they are excited about their music and message. What they envision most is leaving their listeners pondering what their "Sacred Desire" truly is, and motivation for change and growth, ultimately looking beyond our world to Something and Someone vastly larger than ourselves! We all make a difference and leave behind a legacy, whether we choose to or not! What will yours be?
