I was exposed to all forms of World Music from an early age. I had some early training in South Indian Classical on Saraswati Veena. My formal training in music started in 1987 North Indian Classical on Sarod under Pandit Pradeep Barot. Subsequently, I've been trained in the Dhrupad style, initially by Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar, and later after his demise, by his brother, Ustad Zia Fariduddin Dagar.
In 2002, I undertook a research project to redesign / modify and develop Saraswati Veena to suit the style and requirements of Dhrupad. This project was awarded a Research Fellowship by Ministry of Culture, Govt of India for the year 2004-06 under " North Meets South - Dhrupad on Saraswati Veena".
The project was successfully completed in 2006, and since then I've been performing on the new, modified Veena.
