Sadiiya Rock
(Noun) Sah-d-yah: whimsical, talented and young spirited; one who loves expressing themselves through song.
The journey has been a coming of age process for this 22-year-old Brooklynite. She began cultivating her voice at a very early age with vocal coaching from “Uncle Ray” (Raymond Rock), a member of the 1970/80's Band “Crown Heights Affair”. Talent runs in the Rock family, from her cousins comedian/actor Chris Rock to comedian Tony Rock. Sadiiya Rock is applying the same focused driven work ethic to her own career.
Sadiiya attended the famed “Tada”, a theatrical youth ensemble in New York while simultaneously attending acting workshops with Casting Director, the Late Maria Greco. Her innate sense of fashion design landed her an internship with BET’s (Black Entertainment Television) Wardrobe Department in New York. There she met veteran sound designer/mixer Charlie (C.J.) Jones, CEO of the newly developed Urban Melodic Entertainment (UME). At CBS, C.J. oversees audio for BET's 106 & Park, Inside Edition and Guiding Light. His mixing credits also include Showtime at the Apollo, Laffapolooza with Jamie Foxx, Spectacle with Elvis Costello and The Chris Rock Show. Jones recently won the 2008 Emmy Award for “Outstanding Achievement in Mixing” for CBS Daytime Drama “Guiding Light.”
Throughout the years Sadiiya’s has trained with Grammy Award winner and veteran vocal coach Gwen Conley. Most recently, she’s teamed with choreographer Violet Galagarza (KR3T’s, Broadway Dance) who has focused on Sadiiya’s stage presence, movement and presentation. Sadiiya had been working in the background, stylist by day, performer by night, with a court-side view to artists on their rise to the top; from Alicia Keys to Keyshia Cole, from Mario to Lloyd; she was taking notes. Sadiiya was starting to perform at prominent spots like the Village Underground, Joe’s Pub or book gigs like “BK Fashion Weekend,” Atlantis Music Conference” and recently Hot97’s “Blaze The Stage”. She’s paying her dues and building a name for herself.
The end result has given Sadiiya a strong point of view in which she has carved out a unique lane through her song writing coupled with an urban fused sonic canvass. “At a time when there is so much fear in the world, I want people to believe they can be fearless through my music”. She is a new organic funky presence in the world of Urban music. This is reflected in her influences, from Aretha Franklin to Gwen Stefani to Earth, Wind and Fire to Guns & Roses. She collaborated with noted German producer/songwriter, Marcus Brosch who’s been producing artists from Europe’s version of American Idol and has done remixes for Brandy, Lionel Richie and Enrique Iglesias. Their teamwork resulted in the debut International hit “Flatline”, a song about fighting for the sake of love which is currently available on iTunes, Rhapsody.com and amazon.com.
UME is gearing up for street promotion of the single “Lovalicious” partnering with Digiwaxx to service the single in May 2009 and a live performance on BET’s 106 & Park “WOW”, Wednesday June 17th, 2009 at 6PM.
