In 2005, five aspiring restaurant workers moved into a small apartment complex near the tracks in San Luis Obispo, CA and began jamming loosely to the beat of Jack Daniels and Jose Cuervo. Little did they know that within five years, they’d be opening for the likes of Godsmack, Hoobastank and Papa Roach.
Sad Lisa is a group of tight-knit friends creating music as a soundtrack to the infinite frustrations of modern day American society. The mood and subject matter of Sad Lisa’s music is undeniably dark, but playing the songs and purging their aggressions through music is more therapeutic than anything Western medicine could provide.
Maybe that’s why audiences at Sad Lisa gigs connect so vividly to the songs. They share the band’s frustrations, and use the music to exorcise those simultaneous feelings of anger, helplessness and indignation.
In 2008, Sad Lisa competed against 15 other SLO County bands for the Central Coast Battle of the Bands and reigned victorious. In 2009, they defended the title by winning the New Rock 107.3 Battle of the Bands at Mother’s Tavern in San Luis Obispo. Their song “August” is now in rotation on New Rock.
The band is currently working on an album and a music video that they hope to release in the Fall of 2009.
“...raucous, headbanging metal tracks, their raw energy pulsing with all that anger they used to direct at me.” Glen Starkey, New Times.
Hey guys, so this week I not only talked to a couple people in the gym who have been hearing "August" on 107, but I've also seen two more guys wearing SL tee shirts. The fan base is growing and I can't wait to see the crowd at your next show ( wink wink nudge nudge ).
