Suellen Primost

About me:

Well known in the Bay Area for her versatility and expressiveness, Suellen Primost, a seasoned cellist, is in constant demand for orchestral, theatre, and freelance recording work. She has served as principal cellist with the Bay Area Chamber Symphony, Taos Chamber orchestra, Mori Achen Trio and The Espiritu Ensembles. Suellen is also Music Director for Artship Ensemble based in San Francisco, an internationally known dance theatre that performed at the 2006 Prague Fringe Festival. Among her many credits, Suellen created the musical score for the Herstories production of “Bone Songs: Echoes of the Unknown Mother, ” and for 8 Artship productions. She was a guest performer with Living Arts Playback Theater of Berkeley and Woman in Song. An accomplished improviser, she has played at many conferences including Gather the Women Conferences, Sufi and Jewish Meditation Retreats, Theatre of the Feminine workshops in Ashland and Oakland, and "Bathing in Sound, Listening to Silence" at Kalliopeia Foundation in San Rafael. She was featured at the 2007 World Flute Fest in Oakland along with world class flutists Ravichandra Kulur, Stephen Schultz, Ann Licater, Nayo Ulloa, Roger Glenn and Skip Healy and in symphony performances with concert pianists Matt Herskowitz and Sandro Russo. In March of 2008, Suellen performed at an All Stars Benefit at Yoshi's with jazz legends John Santos, Michael Narada Walden, Kai Echhardt and Frank Martin.In 2009, she collaborated with eco-poet Drew Dellinger for "In Radiance of Our Flight" with fellow musicians John Kadyk and Savannah Jo Lack. Suellen is now working on her first solo CD/book, set for release around Christmas 2009. Before moving to the Bay Area in 2002, Suellen performed with The Celestia Consort, Taos and Nashville Symphonies, the Granados, Mendelssohn and Celebration Trios, and Walkabout Improv Ensemble. In the early 80’s, Suellen launched Sedona’s first “Jazz on the Rocks Festival” with jazz pianist Johnny Gilbert. Suellen is available for recording, retreats, solo, orchestral,choral or chamber music performances, weddings, gallery openings, theatre work, conferences and multidisciplinary collaborations. She also performs SageBlessings, music and ceremony, to mark important life transitions .
