Bio
Sahara is the award winning singer/songwriter team Trish and Dave Long who met in their hometown Dublin in the eighties before migrating to Australia where they have toured extensively performing to sell out audiences. Before leaving Ireland they had performed in many of Dublin’s music venues eg. The Baggot Inn, The Meeting Place, Slattery’s, Dame Tavern and Trinity College, and alongside some of the Irish household names such as Brendan Grace, Red Hurley, Linda Martin, Errol Walsh, Freddie White, Declan Sinnott and Kieran Halpin. The first song they co-wrote ‘Vision of Glory’ received airplay on RTE radio which led on to a live performance of another original song ‘Running Out’ on the RTE Davis at Large show. Somehow this landed them in an episode of the TV mini series ‘Inside’ acting as a couple of musicians! Trish and Dave headed over to the UK for some shows however with a looming economic recession in the UK and Ireland they decided to migrate to Australia. Their contemporary, eclectic songs brought swift success after arrival with a support to the Little River Band followed by a memorable win on ‘New Faces’ hosted by Daryl Somers. Sahara also guested with the touring jazz guitarist Martin Taylor at the renowned ‘Limerick Jazz Club’ in Melbourne. The release of their debut CD ‘Vision’ brought Sahara global attention after their song ‘Make My Day’ shot to the No.1 position on the SoundClick first internet charts. Staying at No.1 for four weeks got Sahara an interview on the ABC TV evening news. More songs from this album made various charts around the world which led on to Sahara recording a video of a concert at the Malthouse Theatre in Melbourne. Due to it’s popularity this video was webcast on several occasions from the Celtic TV New York website resulting in Sahara releasing a live album ‘Sahara live at the Malthouse’ taken from the video soundtrack. These albums received critical acclaim and a high rating in some of Australia’s major publications “Their inspirational music, a tidy blend of folk, rock and soul is a celebration of hope, dreams and love” The Age Melbourne, “a fervently Irish flavour but the soulfulness is universal” West Australian. Sahara composed an original soundtrack for an episode of the ABC Australian Story documentary series called ‘Track winding back’ this particular episode received the United Nations Media Award. Sahara’s music was featured in an international travel campaign promoting Ireland to Mexico this advertisement was played in over 300 BlockBuster outlets throughout Mexico. Sahara has spent years on tour performing in theatres, arts centres, hotels and clubs around the greater part of eastern Australia. Sahara also performed ‘live to air’ on the ABC radio network, commercial and community radio stations, as well as appearing on several TV shows from TV8 Gippsland to Melbourne TV Channels 7, 9, 10 and Adelaide Channel 7. Songs written on the road made up their ‘A New Beginning’ CD that was toured to great success and now they have just released their latest studio recording ‘There is this place I go’ which Trish and Dave are currently promoting. "First class production, and catchy melodies make Sahara’s There is this place I go a very pleasant listen".... IndieMusicReview.net Sahara is: Dave on vocals, guitar, keyboards and sequencing and Trish on vocals, saxes, flute, flageolet, recorder and sequencing. What the critics have said: “Dave’s rock vocals are tremendous….the sax playing is to die for” IBL UK. “A New Beginning fuses contemporary adult pop, with folk and rock music to create a soulful and uplifting sound…after hearing it, you are sure to understand why Sahara are as equally popular in folk and rock circles” Woven Wheat Whispers UK. “Sahara is what I call “organic music”, with earthly aural tones of honesty, beauty, driving a very Celtic feel within all tunes on Vision. Dave has an almost eerie “Sting” feel to his vocals, whilst Trish’s singing is very akin to the very popular and respected Ellen Foley. This is a great CD for an empowering efficacious effect with each and every listen.” Late Nite TV USA. ......."The lyrics have a metaphysical / devotional aspect to them, with the particular motive of the songwriting on this album being “the long road to healing”. Smooth, seamless and satisfying, Sahara’s music goes down real easy, like ice cream on a hot summer day". IndieMusicReview.net - - - - - - - - - "When you are needing something to spice up you morning cappuccino, or a companion to your Earl Grey tea at night Sahara is the perfect music for your best moments. With musicianship that has been distilled by time and space, you are an audience to the best duo in this music category. Dave Long has one of the rare gorgeous male vocals in the tradition of Sting and Steve Winwood. I swear I could go on for hours and hours being hypnotized by tracks like No Man’s Land, Higher Than High, and Make My Day. I’m sure no one would question Trish long’s expertise with the sax and other instruments apart from the fact that she has a voice that could rival Celine Dion’s yet has the Irish gorgeousness". Baxter Labatos on "The Celtic Music Fan" ..........“a hauntingly ethereal, yet melodic and contemporary ambiance. Easy listening overall, yet pop enough to appeal to a wide audience” SláinteSteve for 67 Music .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. -
