It is the table of company with Jesus and all those who love him.
So come to this table you who have faith, and you who would like to have more.
You have been to this sacrament often, and you who have not been in a long time.
You who have tried to follow Jesus, and you who have failed. It is Christ who invites us to meet him here.”

Welcome to St. Matthew's! Located in St. Paul's picturesque St. Anthony Park neighborhood, St. Matthew's is a church that will speak to your mind, your heart, and your senses.
We are an Episcopal church that blends the traditional and the contemporary. We are located in a lovely old building that has modern amenities. Our worship draws not only from traditional Episcopal liturgies, but also from liturgies used in other parts of the world. We are medium-sized, meaning that we are large enough to sustain vital programs, but small enough that you can still get to know most of the people in the congregation. We are in located an attractive city neighborhood and we include a broad mix of young and old, families and singles, from a wide variety of backgrounds.
While St. Matthew's may seem like several other churches in the Twin Cities area, we are particularly characterized by:
A desire to go deeper spiritually. People who are drawn to St. Matthew’s tend to ask many questions about their faith, from fundamental questions about who God is, to specific questions about what God wants us to do in this particular time and place. This questioning is no coincidence. Located close to the University of Minnesota and Luther Seminary, we might have more advanced degrees per capita than any other congregation in the Twin Cities. Among our numbers are faculty, ordained clergy, seminarians, and oblates.
We are people with diverse lifestyles and opinions. Most of us were not raised as Episcopalians, and many of us were disenchanted with organized religion before coming to St. Matthew's. What we have in common is a desire to reach a deeper understanding of our relationship with God, and what it means to be a person of faith in the 21st century. Go ahead and bring your questions here. They’ll be taken seriously.
A global perspective. The Episcopal church is part of the Anglican Communion, which has affiliates all over the world. Our congregation includes a number of people from other countries who have found our church an inviting place to worship. We try to reach out to international students, immigrants and refugees. In turn, we are enriched by the infusion of different cultures and perspectives, including some challenges to our Western cultural assumptions. We also work to find places to help in the great sea of need in the world, most especially by supporting the Blue House, a home and school for AIDS orphans in Uganda..
Artistic expression. St. Matthew's is a congregation that very much values and encourages artistic expression. Many of our members are gifted artists, musicians, and actors. When we remodeled, we designed our downstairs to be an exhibit space, the Undercroft Gallery where we regularly host community art exhibits. And the rest of our historic church building, with its original stained glass windows and a newly remodeled altar, encourages contemplation and worship. Our music program is a delight for those who love church music. It supplements the beautiful music of the traditional Episcopal hymnal with African American songs and music from other countries, often incorporating hand bells and other instruments. Our outstanding choir sings at our 10:30 service and at several special music events.
Community leadership. St. Matthew's is a place that draws and develops community leaders. St. Matthew's members hold an especially large number of leadership positions in community, civic, and church organizations. Many of these community leaders offer their talents to the parish's own service efforts, which include offering the church as an overflow homeless shelter for Project Home, feeding the hungry in the Loaves & Fishes program, and helping the Saint Barnabas Apartments for homeless youth.
A desire to be hospitable. When asked recently what they liked most about the church, many members talked about the spirit of hospitality they felt, including the good food served by our passionate cooks, the greeting they received when they first came here, and the support and acceptance they have enjoyed over time.
If you come to visit us, we hope that you, too, will feel warmth and acceptance. Please visit our website: www.stmatthewsmn.org

A book sale!! I wish I could take a quick road trip for that...hope it's a great success. Wanted to let you know that we've changed our website, and have more music (and video) - stop by when you can; we'd love to share the music with you.
I just want to say that this profile makes me want to visit and worship at St. Matthew's parish the next time I'm in the Twin Cities. I'd definitely hang around for coffee hour. Thumbs up for an informative and inviting Webpage profiling your parish.
Dear Saint Matthew's Episcopal: Thank you for YourFriendship. My eight-year-old-peace-activist son Axil's quest for World Peace Before 2021 is gaining momentum! I'm so proud of him. Please embrace him AND his song "World Peace Before 2021" which he performs beautifully. His performance can be seen on MySpace, his webpage www. worldpeacebefore2021. com and/or YouTube (by searching his name Axil Kollist.) It is my intention to post a new video of him singing his song every few months so people can watch his talent grow as impressively as the momentum for his quest! I'm sharing two photos with you. The first is of my son distributing his free world peace bumperstickers and the second photo is of him singing his song “World Peace Before 2021” at Maui's Martin Luther King Jr. Peace Day Festivities in January 08. By all means, email Axil if you’d like him to mail you one of his free “World Peace Before 2021” bumpersticker or if you’d like to invite him to sing for your function. His email address is worldpeacebefore2021@hawaii.rr.com .Very best regards, Axil Kollist’s mom
Thanks for the add! I went to this church with my great grandma Mabel Lyons when I was little. Let me know if you have any church info on her I can add to my ancestry search! Thanks and I'll stop by when I visit MN. (my husband and our family currently live in HI)
