SAJE is an economic justice, community development, and popular education center that has been building economic power for working class people in Los Angeles.
We organize folks in LA to eliminate slum housing conditions and criminalize slumlords. We're trying to create universal tenants’ rights. We also want to reform and restructure redevelopment. And, increase people’s control over land use.

1. Multi-Cultural/musical component that is as diverse as possible and promotes a deeper appreciation for one another¢s heritage. From traditional to contemporary expressions of music, poetry, art and dance.
2. An informational component that promotes social justice and community empowerment. Groups and individuals that wish to promote community involvement and alternative approaches in areas such as health, employment, the environment, culture, immigration and peace will be encouraged to participate.
Join us at the After Party afterwards!
Why the Afterparty?
We are launching this annual event with no fiscal support except what we can raise at these fundraisers. We need to raise about 5k to put on a successful festival that will provide it's participants the essential support to put together an informational presentation or cultural performance such as a stage, sound system, booths, tables, chairs etc.
Hopefully we can make raise some of that money at this Afterparty.
Extreme chaos and destruction from global warming, a looming peak oil crisis threatening economic collapse, or a national security nightmare brought on by an overdependence on foreign oil. You choose the reason... the time to ACT is NOW!
Thanks for the request and for supporting Ms. Roy!
"The only dream worth having is to dream that you will live while you are alive, and die only when you are dead. To love, to be loved. To never forget your own insignificance. To never get used to the unspeakable violence and vulgar disparity of the life around you. To seek joy in the saddest places. To pursue beauty to its lair. To never simplify what is complicated or complicate what is simple. To respect strength, never power. Above all to watch. To try and understand. To never look away. And never, never to forget." - Arundhati Roy

ASSI MARKET WORKERS WON JUDGE'S APPROVAL OF $1.475 MILLION SETTLEMENT OF CLASS ACTION
After four years of litigation, heated community protests, and on-and-off-again settlement talks, Assi Super, Inc. owner Daniel Sung Chul Rhee and his former employees have agreed to settle the workers' class action lawsuit alleging unpaid overtime wages and racial discrimination and harassment for $1.475 million. Their agreement just got a judge's preliminary approval by Judge Carolyn Kuhl at a hearing held on today Monday, April 23, at 9:30. This settlement will effectively close the chapter on the most contentious labor dispute Koreatown has seen in years.
The settlement provides that Assi will pay former workers $1.475 million, create an internal complaint system for workers, and conduct trainings for its managers on California' s wage and hour laws and how to stop employment discrimination. Assi Super is one of Koreatown's largest community-owned businesses, employing over 100 workers.
As you recall, the class action lawsuit was filed after the Koreatown Immigrant Workers Alliance ( KIWA ) led Assi workers in a long campaign to improve working conditions at Assi Market, where many Korean American workers were not paid overtime and Latino workers were denied rest breaks, yelled at and mistreated by management. A union election ended in an official "no result" in 2002. Later that year Daniel Rhee "indefinitely suspended" 56 workers, roughly half of Assi's workforce, in what many believe was retaliation for Assi employees asserting their rights and preparing to file this lawsuit. The suspension of these workers resulted in a community-wide boycott and daily picket lines in front of the market that drew thousands of supporters over the course of the campaign.
When the Court finally orders the checks distributed to workers,
