Salamagundi are whatever you want us to be. Salamagundi, the "Cover Band" plays a WIDE variety of songs from the 50's (Carl Perkins, Chuck Berry) to 2000+ (Weezer, Kelly Clarkson, Green Day, Collective Soul, Blink 182) to everything in between (Johnny Cash, Black Sabbath, Killers, Susan Tedeschi, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jimmy Buffet). We definitely play to our audience, whether it is a bar crowd, a wedding, a street dance, a festival, or a concert.
Now Salamagundi the "Original" band plays something a little more unique. The lyrics tell a story (or at least imply one). The music is a mixture of our influences - you will never find us listening to the same songs or artists - Clete listens to everything on the radio, from oldies to new stuff. Brian likes the old hard rock classics and prog rock and the new release that pay homage to the same. Chad likes Billy Joel, King Missle, Nick Cave and newer endeavors by bands like My Chemical Romance, and the Killers. Kaycee likes her rock a little harder, but with a melody. New female artists like KT Tunstall. Todd likes alt-country-folk, like Jayhawks, Wilco and Sun Volt. Bands like Manchester Orchestra, Mars Volta, Ryan Adams and of course, the Blues. Together, the sound a little acoustic folk, with some melodic rock and a little blues and modern rock thrown in.
Our CD Broken Town tells the story of a small midwestern town. It's about the juxtaposition of struggling with identity while you watch the town you grew up in crumbles. Like all tragedies, there is a love story or two thrown in for good measure. In the end, we like our Broken Town, and it's a damn good place to live.
