Bio
..salix.. is a singer-songwriter in the true style of the poet-lyricist, who is not afraid to use lush vocabulary to describe the world she inhabits. Her songs are rich, layered in meaning, and invoke strong visual imagery. Her lyrics are raw, brutally honest, and transmute her soul’s journey in an ever evolving emotional exorcism. Her vocal style is destinct and unique , with a strong voice that draws her audience in to deep examinations of the inner world. Her live show flows with an intensity that speaks to the spirit, captivating the audience with her dynamic control and passionate guitar playing. She has performed locally in a multitude of guises: as performance poet, ambient sound sculptor, member of the ..Yin-Yang Music Collective.., rhythm guitarist/back-up vocalist for local pop-punk band ..GIGANTIC!.. ...... .. .. .. Influences
Pain, torment, forgotten childhood memories, crates of musty vinyl, music that hasn't been made yet, every sound she has heard and plenty that she hasn't..... I love music, all of it. Musicians, bands and noises that have influenced me include: ..Molly's Head.., Ray Charles, Tool, Perfect Circle, Ani DiFranco, Deftones, Chet Atkins, Tori Amos, the Rhue Family bands, breaking glass, Prince Paul, Dr. Octogon et. al., Jean Grey, J.S. Bach, Vivaldi, the hissing that a car engine makes afer a rollover, Brian Eno, Creatures of Habit, Nancy and Frank Sinatra, everything ever put out on the Ninja Tune and Tresor labels, my crew at the HugeMassif, Johnny Cash, Robert Johnson, Daniel Johnston, ..Low.., the traffic light control pannel outside of my previous bedroom window, the hum of a full fridge and all other electronic equipment in my life. The Wifeys, Julie Novak, Michael Truckpile, and all the diy peeps that I have seen and met in the last year. Oh yeah, and that sound that your computer makes when it connects to your dial-up ISP...i love that shit...fortunately i don't have to hear it anymore to get online ;), bonz purring, feedback, chime time, my boy Kai laughing @ 8am, bleeding lighters, harmony amongst friends. -
Sounds Like
My voice has been compared to Tracy Chapman and Beth Orton, yet I've also been told that it sounds as unique as Maynard from Tool/Perfect Circle. My performance style has been compared to Richie Havens and Jim Morrison. Come see me play and tell me who I sound like...I think I sound like my soul tearing it's way out from inside the cage of my body. At least that's what I feel like when I sing....... On the experimental thing i embrace all things different. I like to take sounds that I hear that evoke a strong emotional response within the core of my being, and offer them up to people to see if they open them up to another place in this space/time continum that they may have missed due to conflicting schedules.
