Texas born, Sally Townes has been playing keyboards since she was five. Her professional career began on the West Coast and has taken her around the world to countries such as Switzerland, France, Japan, Sweden, Norway and Germany. Sally has been blessed with many long-term, sit-down gigs in her career. In fact, as the result of a 2-week stint turning into a 9-year sit-down gig on Bourbon Street, she lived for 22 years in one of her favorite cities ~ New Orleans.
By a fluke, Sally left New Orleans before Katrina. Missing it, but not wanting to return to The Big Easy after Katrina, she spent a few years in Ft. Lauderdale, then recently Las Vegas, until she fell in love with Austin. She says the focus on music and the soul of Austin is reminiscent of her beloved New Orleans, where she enjoyed the challenge and variety of performing to the many tourists and colorful locals each week. Several years ago, as a result of winning a songwriting contest that she entered in New Orleans, Sally performed with Willie Nelson on a television show that was filmed in Austin. After the show, Willie took her and the band out on the town (which she says is quite a treasured memory.) Even then, she expressed that Austin could be a great place in which to live. Little did she know that this would eventually come to pass.
Sally has 5 albums to her credit. Although she writes in many styles, her latest effort, 'Sundown Blue', is currently being played on blues radio stations around the country. This CD was nominated in 2007 in the beginning stages of the Grammy process in two categories ~ Blues CD of the Year and track 1, 'Angelina', for Song of the Year.
With her sultry voice, soulful musicianship and extensive repertoire, SallyTownes is capable of complementing most any musical setting imaginable. She has the ability to play solo at a low volume in a restaurant/dining situation or get down and dirty with a full band on a large stage. Whatever the venue, when she plays and sings, her passion comes through with every note!
