SALMAGUNDI was formed in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1969 at Markley Hall on the University of Michigan campus when its founding members were UM students. Performing popular horn-oriented rock and R&B dance music, they were soon in high demand at all-campus mixers, fraternities and sororities. They were also well-known known for their classic 1950's Old Rock & Roll Show which sometimes featured their lead singer entering the club on his motorcycle.
SALMAGUNDI (a.k.a. GABRIEL & KALEIDOSCOPE) continued to perform over 1600 shows throughout the midwest including many festivals, free concerts, high school proms, clubs and weddings, before retiring in 1986. They reunited in 1999, recorded a great live-in-the-studio reunion CD "Stuck in the '60s" and have been performing concerts and shows ever since. The 2009 version of SALMAGUNDI features several original members and veteran area musicians who have been an integral part of the legendary Ann Arbor live music scene since 1969.
Want copies of the band's musical past? DIGITALLY-MASTERED RECORDINGS are available on CD. They contain live performances of the original Salmagundi (Markley Hall mixer 1970, Phi Chi TGIF 1970, Art Fair concert on the Diag 1971, Coral Gables 1972 and Kaleidoscope 1974) and the reunited Salmagundi (Live at the Ann Arbor Art Fair 2002-6, Ann Arbor Summer Festival - Top of the Park 2004-8 & Michigan Stadium "Big House - Big Heart" 2007). Most recent concerts are also available on DVD. Please e-mail: karldiez@yahoo.com for more information.
SALMAGUNDI's fine studio recording, STUCK IN THE '60s, is available from Mushroom Park Studio. Please e-mail karldiez@yahoo.com for more information.
