My musical taste is various but there is always a common element: THE RHYTHM. It goes from the happy guaguancó (which I connect to "dancing") to the wicked descarga you can admire in this Willie Colón's video (and which I connect to "hardcore dancing"!). Yes, I do like SALSA DURA, the same way I used to like Rock when I was a kid. I happen to be a Dj, and try to diffuse these "vintage sounds" to contemporary dancers (who seem actually more focussed on "foreseen" sounds): it's not that easy, but everytime I succeed, it's a Great Victory for me! My ideal Dj set embraces mainly the 60's and 70's of all salsa-countries (except Cuba which has a different mood), with some interventions of 40's and 50's Cuban Classics and 50's and 60's New York Mambo tunes.
I don't watch Tv since May 2000, when I bought my PC and subscribed to a broadband connection. I spend my evenings browsing the Italian Website of Classic Salsa LASALSAVIVE.ORG, the French one Buscasalsa.com , the Puertorican Herecialatina.com and the Peruan Mambo-inn.com . Recently, an Italian website ( www.rayperez.it ) has been created in homage to legendary Venezuelan pianist Ray Pérez, leader of Los Dementes, whose first European concert has been held last September 28th in Galliera (Bologna), thanks to Max Chevere and Tommy Salsero (owners of Lasalsavive.org)
My favourite forum is American and is called SALSAFORUMS.COM; there you can find a section called Name That Tune where people ask for the names of the songs played at US venues and congresses, and Dj's answer to them. You know why I find it so interesting? Because the majority of the songs are Classic Salsas!
Books
Don't read that much but I listen to tons of music!

About me: My name is Claudio, I'm from Milan, Italy, where there's plenty of Clubs playing Classic Salsa for the so called "Cross Body Style Dancers"; I happen to go nuts for the roaring sixtiees and seventiees of New York, PR, Venezuela, Panama, Colombia and Peru, when Salsa musicians where on top of their creativity: the origins of many of my favourite rhythms of Salsa lie in the Fourtiees and the Fiftiees of Cuba (Arsenio, Sonora, etc), a country I pay respect to. I also like what was "in the middle", such as Mambo, Cha Cha, Pachanga and Boogaloo eras of the New York' fiftiees and sixtiees.
After knowing the "Classics" of Classic Salsa (i.e. the major names of Fania and other labels) my research has focussed onto the "Minor Classics" (such as Dicupé, Zodiac, Dementes) and now onto the "Rare Tunes", directly from vinyls. I have a weakness for this "obscure" area of Salsa, because it leads to finding hidden treasures.
Ciao Claude, sono molto lieto di essere fra gli amici di questa tua nuova pagina. Ehi fenomeno della salsa, sei tornato o sei ancora nella grande mela?
