How many of you remember what we call the "Good old days???"

I am a firm believer that the best is yet to come, but if you remember any of these places, that some of us "Baby Boomers" loved so much, felt in love in these places for the first time or the hundred time. Learned how to dance salsa, cha cha, charanga, son cubano, son Montuno, Habaneros, etc. For many of us, it was at these places that we learned and developed the social skill that have allow us to interact so well till now, because in these NYC clubs of the "good old 70's)everyone knew each other from somewhere and everyone was your friend.

I remember one day I had a party in my apartment in Woodycrest ave in the Bronx (I was only 18 yrs of age and I already had a place in a great area and a beautiful building "Nonan Towers", no one at that age nowdays, can afford to keep an apartment ) The party was celebrating my cousin Dictelio's 21th Birthday, I had a large studio apartment, by 9:00 pm that night there were over 100 people, 80% of these people I did not know, they heard from someone, that knew someone, that there was a party "Bien Bacano" in the Bronx, Bacano or Bacana was a term used for people that were players, good dancers and dressed well. Bacaneria was everything the Bacanos and Bacanas did.

If you remembers those were the days, that crashing parties was a skills. Anyway we all had fun and if was not because the Viet Nam war,(many of us lost, friends, brothers, uncles etc) I guess life would have been 100% care free.

It was in these clubs that we learned about our latin culture, "The Cosa Nostra" Nuestra cultura.....

If you remember the following clubs and have pictures please write me back ,and if you don't mind, send me a copy of the pictures, I am creating a "Good old 70's slide show. Here we go;

El hipocampo, Casa Blanca,The Tritons Social Club, Pozo (afterhours) Tu Casa Social Club (after hours) La Mariposa, La escalera, The 310 1/2, The Chez sensual, Park Plaza, El dorado, Savoy Manor, Faces inc, Bombamakao, Barnie Gogle, El Corso, The Roseland, The Maganette, Scorpio's Inn, Hunts Point Palace, Colgate Gardens, Luigis, EL Toro, Terrace Garden, Burnside Manor, The Epoca, Tapestry, The village Gate, The Cheetah (this is where all began) Embassy ballroom, Side Street, Concourse Plaza, Peek -A-Boo Lounge, The Paradise Garage, Ipanema ,The Stardust Ballroom, Birdsland, The wagon Wheel, El Chico, Ochentas,The Tropicana, There were also the Disco we frquented in the City such as the Forbiden Apple, The Santuary,Reflection,The Loft, Starship Discovery 1,Inferno.I am having a mental block right know, but there were more discoteque that we frequented.

The best Salsa radio program was "Symphony sid" and "Descarga" hosted by Joe Gaine, I remember the summers, how every street in the Bronx, The south of Brooklyn and El Barrio, was "Encendia" (In fire) with this radio station and the music that Joe played. It was the time the Gran Combo came up with " Un Verano en Nueva York"

There were so many places that it was hard to keep up. I remember Dancing 7 days a week, going to work and to City College, Please don't ask me how I acomplished all those task, apparently I did and I was good at it, at least I was able to eat anyhting I wanted and I never gained one pound.

Overall I can say that there were in fact good times for all of us that were young and fearless.

Wonderful memories..... I am glad, I had these experience, met so many wonderful people, some of them are still my friends and we keep in touch, sometimes we forget that we are not family. Our love of salsa and our culture brought us together.... I feel very blessed...... A little trip down memory lane......

SOME THINGS THAT I LEARNED......................

I've learned .... That I wish I could have told my Mom and my Dad that I love them one more time before they passed away

I've learned that life sometimes gives you a second chance. I've learned that whenever I decide something with an open heart, I usually make the right decision. I've learned that every day, you should reach out and touch someone. People love that human touch - holding hands, a warm hug, or just a friendly pat on the back.....

I've learned ...That just one person saying to me, 'You've made my day!' makes my day.

I've learned .... That I can always pray for someone when I don't have the strength to help him in some other way.

I learned to live each day as if it was your last, life is not guarateed to us.

I've learned that no matter what happens or how bad it seems today, life goes on, and it will be better tomorrow. ..

I've learned .... That no matter how serious your life requires you to be, everyone needs a friend to act goofy with.

I've learned that, regardless of your relationship with your parents, children, siblings, friends and relative you will miss them when they are gone from your life.

I've learned . That sometimes all a person needs is a hand to hold and a heart to understand.

I've learned ... . That we should be glad God doesn't give us everything we ask for.

I've learned .... That money doesn't buy class. I've learned .... That it's those small daily happenings that make life so spectacular. I've learned ... That under everyone's hard shell is someone who wants to be appreciated and loved p>

I've learned .... That to ignore the facts does not change the facts. I've learned .... That when you plan to get even with someone, you are only letting that person continue to hurt you. I've learned .... That the easiest way for me to grow as a person is to surround myself with people smarter than I am.

I've learned that making a living is not the same thing as making a life!

I've learned that if you pursue happiness, it will elude you but, if you focus on your family, your friends, the needs of others, your work, and doing the very best you can, happiness will find you.

I've learned that you shouldn't go through life with a catcher's mitt on both hands, you need to be able to throw something back. As important as it may seen the art of giving , it feel just as good, receiving.

I've learned .... That opportunities are never lost; someone will take the ones you miss. I've learned .... That when you harbor bitterness, happiness will dock elsewhere.

I've learned .... That everyone you meet deserves to be greeted with a smile.

I've learned .... That one should keep his words both soft and tender, because tomorrow he may have to eat them. I've learned .... That a smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks. I've learned .... That everyone wants to live on top of the mountain, but all the happiness and growth occurs while you're climbing it.

I've learned ... That life is tough, but I'm tougher. I've learned that after the storm, there's always calm... I learned that there's always tomorrow.. to learn, mend and repent.

This is just some of the things I've learned so far, I still have a lot to learn... I hope that God will give me the opportunity to obtain the wisdom that I need for the rest of my life.

About me:

Hey What’s up?....... BIENBENIDOS!!!

My name is Carmen,I spend a good part of my life as a Credit and Receivables Manager in the fashion industry. I would say that is was a very lucrative career which I enjoyed and made good money.

Last year I decided to go back to my first love which is promoting our music and culture the salsa which with the music and the dance tell you the story of our root and who we are as latinos in general. I must say that this career is not lucrative at all for me, on the contrary, but it's something that I am very passionated about. I am carrying the torch to keep the salsa alive, I hope that you that are reading this, will join me by supporting the music, what I mean is buy the music, support the musician by attending the concerts and the event and the promoters by showing up in their events.

LETS KEEP SALSA ALIVE!!!!!

Other things about me, that I would like to share with you is that I love to laugh and be around good company, am kind but not a fool. I love music, almost all kind of music.

"I have a passion for Salsa; consider myself UNA GRAN SALSERA y RUMBERA!!!! SALSA IS IN MY BLOOD, MY SOUL…. I JUST LOVEEEEEEEEE SALSA. I NEVER SAY NO TO A RUMBA.
For me, the salsa culture, the music, the dance have been a source of stress relieve and helps me refuel and connect with my inner self, this music makes my soul smile.

I have many interest, I support many social issues and cause. I do volunteering work with few organizations.

I am a Libra, so you know that I can appreciate art and the theater. I love elegant and trendy clothes, love to go shopping, love to dance, especially salsa music. I’ve been told that I am a great dancer. My soul is just as important to me, I like to feed it with very strong positive emotions and ideas, and you could say that I’m very spiritual and highly emotional. I can say that I’ve been blessed with "muchas vivencias,” a big family and many friends.

When I reflect in the past, I can honestly say that being a mother and raising my children was the best time of my life. I love my family, and all of my old and new friends. I appreciate every person that God has brought into my life, I believe that such encounters are not coincidental or circumstantial; we all have a purpose in someone’s life. I am thankful for the wisdom that God has given me, and it ‘s of great value to me specially when I use it speaking an encouraging word into the life of someone who is wounded and bleeding and doesn't know where to turn. I naturally gravitate to the creative soul whose passions and sensitivities are in the in the same realm as mine.

I am a firm believer in the "Law of Reciprocity." What we plant and where we plant it will always come back...without fail, I have witnessed many times, God's miraculous and life-transforming power at work in people. I appreciate openness in people. People who are multi culturally conscious and have an authentic identity. I’m always looking for the uniqueness and individuality of others. I believe that survival is merely the first step on the path to your personal independence.

Thanks to my faith and my spirituality I’ve been able to overcome many challenges in my live and grow in sensitivity to the things of God. ...

I believe that without adversity there is no growth, I am a work in progress, doing the best I can. I love having hope! Believing, that the rest of my life, will be the best of my life. I believe that we all have the power to make that happen. I have the confidence and the assurance that I am blessed and highly favored. God, has healed my brokenness, and recreated me to be what he always meant for me to be…….

I HOPE YOU ENJOY YOUR VISIT HERE “MI CASA ES TU CASA”

This is a just small playlist of the music that I love, I really can appreciate the classic salsa. Just the same way I love classic soul......

Get Your Own Player!

Who I'd like to meet:

Porfirio Rubirosa

I really would love to meet all of you.
I love to meet interesting people from all over the world. Music is a passions of mine...among other things ~

I love this quote "Life is short, Break the rules, Forgive quickly, Kiss slowly, Love truly, Laugh uncontrollably, And never regret anything that made you smile. Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we're here we should dance."

Interesting people, of past and present generations.... Some of these people made a positive impact or left a great legacy, as for others, I think the world would have been better off withou them.
