WEEKLY READINGS AT CUP OF JOE
Every Saturday at 8:30PM, Salt City Slam and Cup of Joe present open mic readings at Cup of Joe in Salt Lake City. Every third Saturday, we will present a featured poet between our open mic rounds. Every fourth Saturday, we will hold a poetry slam, which is a three round competition to determine who is able to curry the most favor from the crowd.
Sign-ups for the open mic and for the slam begin at 8PM. It's first come first serve and when the lists are full, that is it!

We have a point system for participation in open mics
and placing in slams. A poet get a point each time
they read at an open mic at either the Cup of Joe open
mic, starting September 1, 2009. At poetry slams, held once a month at Cup of
Joe on the fourth week of the month, 8 people will be
allowed to participate. 27 points will be awarded for
winning a slam, 14 for second, 9 for 3rd, 5 for 4th
and 2 points are awarded for finishing 5-8th. In addition,
one point will be awarded for every round of open mic a poet
reads at during our weekly open mic.
These points will determine the top contenders for
our finals that will vie for our
team slots and the opportunity to participate in the
2009 National Poetry Slam. If one of the qualifiers after this selection is completed cannot attend NPS, we will select a replacement based on where individuals finished in finals.
The iWPS representative for Salt City Slam will be the slam champion (winner of the Team Selection Slam) from that year. If the slam champion from that year declines to attend, the next highest ranking poet from the Team Selection Slam will be asked, and so forth. If no competitor in the Team Selection Slam is able to attend, an open slam of interested participants will be held to determine who will represent the venue.
WOWPS representative will be chosen from the winner of an open slam competition.

Ils sont près de 4 millions en France à être touchés par des maladies rares, encore trop mal connues. Grâce au Téléthon, il y a aujourd'hui une trentaine d'essais sur l'homme, en cours ou en préparation. Mais il y a urgence. Face à la maladie nous n'avançons jamais assez vite.

Every Saturday, starting at 6pm, is the Salt City Slam writing/performing workshop hosted by Shae First Saturdays, 3 round open mic Second Saturdays, Open Mic and Feature Performer Third Saturdays, Open Mis and Slam Fourth Saturdays, Open Mic with Optional theme (presented during workshop) Fifth Saturdays, when applicable(Nov, Jan, May, Aug), Open Mic with "special theme;" e.g. dead poets slam, low-ball slam, hiaku deathmatch, etc. (specified during open mics and workshops)

September wkshp schedule: 6th, writing promp due: poem starting with "She gives him the finger" 13th, writing theme due: basis for poem is the phrase "a world of hurt" utilizing all of the potential imagery that could be culled from it. 20th, writing assignment due: write a poem about a collection that someone loves, but someone else hates 27th, writing prompt due: write a poem containing the following phrase (or variation thereof) "the shock alone would have killed him"
