People are always wondering where our band name ’Sal’ came from.
So we decided to add this to our band details:
Sal was named after Sal Paradise
Sal Paradise is the narrator and the protagonist in Jack Kerouac’s novel On the Road. Sal, an Italian-American youth living in New Jersey with his aunt, is an uninspired writer working on a book who follows and accompanies a friend’s friend, Dean Moriarty, a young and reckless Denver vagrant, on his journeys across America and describes his trips with and without Dean in search of kicks.
On the Road is known as a semi-autobiographic story, and Jack Kerouac admitted himself being Sal Paradise, when the journalists asked him if he was Dean Moriarty, who was actually inspired by another Beat hero and a close friend of Kerouac, Neal Cassady. Indeed, the connections between Sal and Kerouac are significant. Jack, coming from a French origin himself, created Sal as an Italian-American based on his life; while Sal lives with his aunt in New Jersey, Kerouac lived with his mother in New York.
Sal Paradise is a widely known 20th Century fictional Beat character, and Jack Kerouac one of the pioneers of modern fiction.
A four-piece rock/punk outfit. Sal kick out with energetic, emotional rock music and incredibly catchy tunes.
Sal have worked extensively with producer Greg Haver (Manic Street Preachers, Catatonia, INME) to create a fresh, punky, infectious sound that’s steadily built up a fan base since they got together in 2001 - thanks to TV appearances, radio airplay, numerous demos, UK tours, festivals and sheer hard work.
Fronted by Cat with Noog on guitars, Chris on bass and Denley on drums, Sal have shared stages with the likes of Terris, Skindred, Reef, The Crockets, Dodgy, Kennedy Soundtrack, The Datsuns, Fydolla Ho, Bad Manners and even the mighty Saxon!
Their debut album 'Dysfunctional' released through Copro and produced by Greg Haver received rave reviews and frequent airplay on national radio.
Last year saw Sal back in the studio with ACE (former guitarist and founder of Skunk Anansie) recording their new EP ‘Infatuation’ which was released last summer.
“Our aim was to capture our rockier live sound on CD, ACE heard our album and said he’d love to produce our new songs, we knew that he was on the same page as us and are really excited with the results” Says frontperson Cat
With a hectic gigging programme around the whole of the UK, the four piece have been honing their sound and developing a strong following of supporters.
Since the EP, SAL have been busy writing their second album, which you can look out for this year.
With a collection of New material, the second Sal album coming this year tying in with a UK tour, the year 2008 promises to be an exciting year for Sal.

Loving "Devil May Care" more and more each time I here it. Eclipses all the other 007 themes since "A View To A Kill" back in 1985. Brilliant video!!! Cat looks so hot!!! I hadn't realised until I looked at the mini-site that it had all been done green screen - kudos to the team that made it.
Any plans to tour in England (though would doubtless come to Wales). If you get Surrey way there is a music venue in Guildford called "The Boileroom" www. theboileroom. net that may suit you, depending on the size of crowd you're after. Going to start badgering the GuilFest music festival to have you along in 2009.
Look forward to the new album and seeing you live.
