Nothing beats a haunted moonlit night on All Hallows Eve. On this fatal night, at this witching time, the starless sky laments black and unmoving. The dark forest suddenly illuminated under the emerging face of the full moon. When witches go riding, and black cats are seen, the moon laughs and whispers, ‘tis near Halloween. When black cats prowl and pumpkins gleam, ghost spirits abound. Leaping into darkness with delight, lusting for the ecstasy of fright, open to the charm of horrors new.
I was at anchor in my sailboat Spirit, in Tenant’s Harbor, Maine on a very foggy morning. I could have waited for the fog to lift but I have a perverse fondness for fog. It was fun, scary and eerily beautiful with the wonderful otherworldliness of fog. When I reached Owl’s Head, the fog had thickened and I could only hear the horn on the lighthouse. It seems fit that these reported spectres are comforting and watchful. That is roughly the way I felt about the light house in the fog – spectral but comforting, guiding me into the open waters of Penobscott Bay. The keeper’s house is said to be haunted by an “old sea captain” – who is most likely a former keeper. According to local legend, one night the three-year-old daughter of a keeper woke her parents and announced, “Fog’s rolling in! Time to put the foghorn on!”. The parents had never brought up that subject with their daughter and had no clue where she would have picked up the lingo. They soon discovered that she apparently had an imaginary friend n old sea captain. He has been seen by other former keepers and likes to leave his footprints in the snow outside the lighthouse and polish the brass.
The tide recedes, but leaves behind bright seashells on the sand. The sun goes down, but gentle warmth still lingers on the land. The music stops, yet echoes on in sweet, soulful refrains. For every joy that passes, something beautiful remains."

It's really cool this morning and plenty of moisture in the air so hopefully that helps with the fire fighting efforts (if it's still burning).

Hey! Wow, too bad you were here for a month and we didn't get to meet! I sing at Tootsie's downtown 5 nights a week..yes, I know Melanie & Rikki..Mel is one of my best friends from Nashville, I miss her terribly..and I'll get to see Rikki this coming Monday when he plays here, love the Rockettman, such a great person..I'm so happy for them and the birth of their baby boy!
