About me:
We are the UK's most innovative independent publisher - it's official! Here is a photo of Chris and Jen after winning the 2008 Nielsen Innovation of the Year Award at the Independent Publishing Awards.

Salt’s origins date back to 1990 when poet John Kinsella launched Salt Magazine in Western Australia. The journal rapidly developed an international reputation as a leading publisher of new poetry and poetics. Over the next decade, Kinsella, together with Tracy Ryan, went on to develop Folio(Salt), publishing and co-publishing books and chapbooks focused on a pluralist vision of contemporary poetry which extended across national boundaries and a wide range of poetic practices; a vision which still permeates our literature publishing today.

In 1999 John Kinsella, Clive Newman and Chris Hamilton-Emery formed a partnership to develop Salt Publishing, forming the template of today’s business. When Clive left in 2002 and the original partnership was dissolved, Jen Hamilton-Emery joined Chris to take over the running of Salt, relaunching the business in the UK. Since that time Salt has rapidly expanded its size and the range of the publishing programme. In November 2004, Salt was incorporated and Linda Bennett joined as a Director. In July 2005 John Skelton joined as a Director. In March 2007 Janna Rademacher joined as US Sales and Marketing Director.

From its offices in Great Wilbraham, Cambridge, Salt now publishes over 40 books a year, focussing on poetry, short stories, biography, literary criticism and text books by authors from the US, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the Caribbean and mainland Europe.

The list includes a widening range of internationally-acclaimed authors, including a prize-winning Native American writing series. 2006 saw the launch of our short story list, and 2007 the launch of our Companions series.

Poem 162 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse
(please see my blog):
TEES TO TYNE: FIRST IMPRESSIONS - SUMMER 2001

Where traditions are not so rare;
    Sea, country and works scent the air;
A multitude of monuments,
    Planted tubs and patterned pavements.

The longish pedestrian malls;
    The remnants of defensive walls;
Historic buildings are a gauge
    Of the respect for heritage.

Wheat, rape and pines in the fields;
    Estuaries guarded by shields;
Long sandy beaches and wide scenes;
    Romantic-ruin go-betweens.

Rivers in parts licked by trees,
    Or fringed by boat clubs, wharfs, gantries,
And crossed by practical delights -
    Varied spans, forming pleasing sights.

Fine churches headed at Durham;
    Football kits ad infinitum;
Kept castles - one for study;
    Masonry behind masonry.

And, with moulding-works out that way,
It’s somewhere for a longer stay..?

We crawl over a bridge of saloon doors, knees and elbows
bleeding forks, blind, screaming through the vertical night, dreaming of the
open bed every dripshit is dreaming of. Need for elegance, need for roots are feeding this inner struggle, among
corn and lions, over the wide open field of golden hair, waving under a fluoresent
plastic storm. Some phrases are made of true flesh, some words just tell
stories. The language fixes two ways of life: learning to be born, or learning
to obey. Let’s choose not to choose, lets leave the humanity and rejoin
the animal. (a rough translation from French...)

ave Salt!

hi do check my new book out. on www.allromanceebooks.com dark regards nick armbrister. its quite dark and about the perils of online dating. enjoy!:)

In our 21st century world of e-mail, internet and online networking sites, many things happen good and bad. People talk to one another in real time. They often fall in love without ever meeting. How on earth is it possible? Most of us use the net today without a second glance. Just be careful this could happen to you. When Fred was contacted by Betty, he was unaware of the torment and heartache he'd face.
Excerpt:
He only ever was in love with one woman. What's the difference of loving a gal compared to being in love? He knew the answer, oh yes he did. He had loved a certain gal for almost five years now. Five long, tough, lonely years—she was inside him all that time. She was like him in so many ways how would he not be in love with her forever? Would it be wise to share her name with you? he wondered, for it's all so very true.
No, he'll change her name to respect her privacy. Also there were other gals before her and since they deserved anonymity, they received it. This story is ongoing and won’t end until the certain gal says yes or he takes his last mortal breath

(Hi: enjoyed my visit.)

After you've finished here, you may like to hear this poem sung on myspace...

Poem 2 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse
(please see my blog):
WALKABOUT WITH MY PEN

Once drove an old sedan, up north,
From a place in Sydney to Cairns;
Then to Kuranda I went forth,
By train, to look without set plans.

I browsed through the trendy market,
With fresh fruits of tropical kind;
Walked to the creek through lush thicket -
Nature’s hand giving peace of mind.

I dined in a scenic cafe;
Then, outside, as I wrote for yen,
Some passing Kooris called-out: “Hey,
You go walkabout with your pen.”

Request or question, I don’t know -
Assured voices, elderly men.
That’s now several years ago,
And I’ve seen the world - with my pen.

I need new friends, never touched bodies, never pronounced names, to restore the damages, to fill the holes bured through me by the migraine. Unfortunately, there is a person named Siren among them. She suffers from the Multiple Chemical Sensitivity Syndrom, meaning she can smell the souls. You can imagine which stink she has to face every day, and how strong her hate for the world must be.
