Salty Rootz
is the perfect blend of powerful and inspirational lyrics, fierce beats, balmy grooves, well developed harmonies, and positive vibes. Their music borders on reggae, rock, and soul fusion. The band is not afraid, however, to incorporate many other genres of music for an eclectic experience rarely seen in music today. Influences include Bob Marley, Sublime, Ozomatli, No Doubt, Incubus,and Sade. Spencer, a self taught musician/songwriter, holds down guitar and lead vocals. His unique vocal stylings provide the base for the sound of Salty Rootz. Rachel, on secondary vocal, provides the essential harmony and occasionally lead vocals and percussion. Floyd, on bass, provides the necessary groove that pushes the irie vibe. Guigui, on drums, is a well travelled musician bringing a unique style that can only be attributed to his heritage and his dedication to his art. Shem, late bloomer in music, provides accent to the groove.
Salty Rootz remains unaffiliated with labels but have put into motion the recording of their first EP due to be released this fall. These up and comers have an ever increasing fan base and the band can be seen regularly in and out of Salt Lake City.
