About me:

Sound of Excellence is a new and innovative music industry showcase and platform for unsigned and original artists. The aim of the platform is to provide artists with an opportunity to perform in front of a&r from both major and indie labels it’s also great for local and national bands to network amongst top industry personnel thus also enabling them to expand on their following.

We do not support pay to play promoters, however we require a minimum audience of 20 people per act for acoustic nights & 30 people per act for band nights therefore we operate a ticket buy scheme which enables you to sell tickets to your fans in advance.

The showcase is presented by independent label Excellence Records who are looking to sign new acts to their artist roster in 2010.

Indie label owner Samantha Crompton from Excellence Records has over 10 years experience in the music industry and specialises in Artist Development. Sam is currently running showcases to promote top acoustic acts & bands of all genre’s to A&R & Industry professionals so we are inviting ACOUSTIC acts solo artists to perform for us on our prestigious showcase "Sound Of Excellence" live @ the Blag Club, Notting Hill and FULL BAND nights @ The Proud Galleries.

Live and Unsigned the biggest original music competition for unsigned bands and artists in the UK. The competition has attracted over 30, 000 entrants in the last three years and has proven a huge success with original musicians across the country. Auditions travel across the country in a bid to find the UK’s ultimate unsigned act. Live and Unsigned is like no other competition because each act auditions live, there are no demos or submissions. Musicians line up to face the scrutiny of the judging panel, all in the hope of being crowned the winner and becoming signed. Those that make it through the auditions battle it out on stage at the Regional Finals in front of a live audience and judging panel, for the chance to perform at the Live and Unsigned Festival and Grand Final at the O2 in London. The Finale of the competition will see acts perform on the main stage of the Festival.

BIOGRAPHY My Musical journey first began at the age of 11 in which I participated in School choirs and engaged in private singing tuition I recognised that by the age of 15 Music was all I was interested in and slowly began to develop a passion for music promotion and marketing. I also found by developing and encouraging other artists/musicians with a gift to both write and produce material more rewarding.

In 2000/1 a passion for artist promotion became more than just a Hobby and at that point decided to seek professional business advice from HABAC in Hull where I resided during my teenage years. After many months of business planning and advice, I launched The Talent League, a promotions company and organisation which offered advice and promotion to budding musicians of Hull and East Yorkshire. The Talent League specifically designed projects to help raise the profile of their unsigned artists. To launch the organisation TTL arranged to film a Documentary to help raise awareness for the musicians of Hull, as it was found through research that although Hull hail many talented musicians there were no such organisations/companies with the resources available to promote them locally. TTL worked closely with BBC Radio Humberside & Raw Talent Competition and various venues across the city to help promote the acts. The same year local band Mr Mojo won Raw Talent who's lineup consisted of an old school friend lead guitarist Lee Starr.

I came across Solo Artist Andy Stocks who was the first ever artist I had worked with on a professional level, he participated in the Documentary and TTL's project "Song For The City" the project was designed to help bring unity to the city of Hull as there is a north south divide separated by the river humber. The Humber bridge was the only connection between Barton and Humber. TTL brought together some of the cities top songwriters/musicians including Beautiful South songwriter Mike Greaves, who wrote the song "The Bridge" for TTL's project. It was recorded at Fairview Recording studios and released for promotional purposes. This project was featured in many top magazines and received extensive coverage by The Daily Mail. Andy then progressed to signing a major management deal and publishing deal with Warner Chappell I eventually managed Andy for a few years before he emigrated to the USA where he currently resides.

After successfully completing the first project. I then designed a project for solo artist Mike Rogers to raise funds for the NHS Hospital Hull Royal Infirmary Mike was invited by the press officer to spend a day at the Hospital to gain inspiration for the lyrics of the song "Life Factory" which was successfully released and for sale in all major outlets all proceeds were donated to the trust. Prior to the release I had arranged for Mike to perform at the Kingston Communication Stadium to an audience of almost 14,000.

Over the years I had worked hard to build on a reputation and artist roster and in 2003 decided to amalgamate The Talent League as the artist development & promotion department for my independent label Excellence Records. I have signed various acts onto the label for management promotion and development purposes only as I wanted to establish the label before signing any acts for a recording contract. I have organised various charity events for many different causes namely the Demelza Children's Hospice.

Back in February 2007/8 I was approached by the lovely Mike Mendoza to co-present on his show on Talksport Radio 1089/1059AM the UK's national commercial radio station. During this time Mike taught me how to not only produce my own show and playlist but I learnt allot about broadcast journalism through his expertise which is invaluable. I introduced Alternative Rock band Your Favorite Enemies to the show, www.myspace.com/yourfavoriteenemies they also won "The Next Big Thing" with over 7,000 votes the largest number of votes for an unsigned band, which was hosted by established music producer David Courtney, who has worked with the likes of Leo Sayer & Paul McCartney among Your Favorite Enemies were Mesh-29 a razor edge acoustic band from Peterborough who became a featured band on The Mike Mendoza Show before reaching the UK top 40 Singles Chart in July with their debut Single "Over The Barricade" at position 35 and number 22 in the Independent Music Chart. www.mesh29.com

In September 2007 I was approached by co-worker, Talksport Engineer, Screenwriter and Producer Jon Hurn who appointed me as Music Supervisor to a magical feature film about rebirth written by Jon namely "Do Elephants Pray?" directed by award winning director Paul Hills, which will be released into the Cinema. www.elephantfeatures.com

April/May/June 2009, I judged alongside some of the industries top people at Basildon Theatre including organiser Chris Grayston on the regional and area final on one of the UK's largest unsigned music competitions namely Live and Unsigned. The national grand final in Portsmouth was judged by Radio 1 DJ Annie Nightingale and former sex pistols manager Malcolm Mclaren just to name a few. www.liveandunsigned.uk.com

The Majority of my acts have worked with many established names in the business including former A1 singer/songwriter/producer Ben Adams. Thus also many acts I have worked with in the past have gone on to achieve great success and exposure from Xfactor bootcamp to major label deals. I feel both proud and privelledged to have been part of their careers.

"Life Factory" was for sale in all major music outlets and was performed at a promotional gig at the new KC Super Stadium in Hull, UK. Mike Rogers was the first to play the stadium (not Elton John as records may state) to an audience of 14,000. This successful event was arranged by Sam Crompton of TTL (Top Independent Promotions Company & Label based in London, UK).
