Samantha Farrell’s MySpace page describes her sound as a mix of “acoustic, soul and indie,” but, in many ways, the budding L.A. singer/songwriter places soul at the front of her sound. It’s her voice which draws you in, a soulful mix of Van Morrison’s country hospitality, Ella Fitzgerald’s jazzy range and Fiona Apple’s modern honesty. As best ..ed on her new CD, Spiritus, the curly-haired, bespectacled singer is a truly modern folkie, weaving tails through her stories, but connecting with listeners through her voice. The breezy “Sea Song” is a gentle, coffee-shop lament, while the more progressive folk-rock number “Keep Moving” wouldn’t sound out of place in Ani DiFranco’s more rocking repertoire. “Shake,” perhaps the most unique number Farrell has on display, showcases her acoustic guitar chops and, more impressively, skills as an arranger (nodding to the Tin Pan Alley somewhere along the way.) The ballad “She Will Rise” is also a slice of piano-pop which, along with Farrell’s voice, builds from a quiet whisper into something more pronounced. Yet, despite her divergent sounds, Farrell manages to tie Spiritus’ eclectic mix of sounds together by wearing her emotions, and more importantly, her soul on her sleeve.

Oh my god! You're CD is amazing my favorite songs are "Believe" and "Another 2nd Chance". The CD is so good I listen to it on repeat. Songs 5,6 & 7 are already skipping I think they may be my faves. You are soooooo talented! Love you! Oh and I love "Thank you" too every time I hear it I'm like I wish I had a kid to sing that song to me. I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE YOUR CD SO MUCH!!! Hey Sammy sorry I haven't called just been super busy just ended this semester and my daughter has had birthday parties to go to left and right, her last day is June 12 so I hope we can get together soon, just been crazy around here no time to just sit and think which is good sometimes but I miss out out my life outside of my family and work. I'm still up for a boat ride a bike ride anything away from responsibility for a couple hours lol, I will give you a call asap hope all is well with you and your fam! Love em
