Born and raised in Edmonton, Samantha Schultz is 18 years old and has graduated from one of the city’s local arts schools. She began singing at the age of 3 and playing the guitar since she was 11. Samantha writes her own lyrics and music and has a subject range far exceeding her years.
She has had many opportunities to showcase her talents by entering local competitions and playing at open stages and at The Northern Lights and Full Moon Folk clubs in Edmonton and at the Nickelodeon in Calgary. In February 2009, Samantha opened for Schuyler Fisk and Ben Taylor at the famed El Mocambo club in Toronto, Canada.
Samantha was a featured performer at the Vancouver Island Musicfest and was also honored to be asked to perform as a “Tweener” at the 2005 Edmonton Folk Music Festival, as well as in 2007, where she was included in the U-22. Samantha has now performed twice at the Calgary Parkland Summer Solstice Festival, and has performed at the 2009 Kelowna Arts and Music Festival, as well as the 2009 Salmon Arm Roots and Blues Festival; she was featured in the Sirius Satellite "Six Pack," including artists such as Serena Ryder, Sam Roberts, Bedouin Soundclash, Sierra Noble, and Elliott Brood.
She adds to her credits opening for such artists as Kyle Riabko, Ruthie Foster, Lynn Miles, Gaye Delorme, Doug Cox and Sam Hurrie, and Jennifer Warnes.
In November of 2006, Samantha was the youngest nominee in the category of “Young Performer of the Year” at the Canadian Folk Music Awards. In 2007 and 2009, Samantha was a nominee at the Mayor’s Evening for the Arts in the category of the Stantec Youth Artist Award.
This fall, Samantha is currently attending Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA, on the generous Gary Slaight Family Scholarship.
About this page: I have been very active in Domestic Violence causes all of my adult life. I noticed a need in the world pertaining to Same Sex Domestic Violence. It happens more than people know. Unfortunately there are a number of gay people who barely consider themselves worthy or valued as a gay person much less a Domestic Violence Victim. There are also very limited resources, statistics, or information, for Same Sex Domestic Violence. Hopefully through empowerment and education we can change some of this. :D ~ Dee ~
Samantha, Trials and Tribulations will either make us More Holy, or More Sinful depending [GREATLY] on our Relationship to God/with God, Amen? Because when testings come (and they WILL come "IF" you are Walking right), WE will either TRUST God's purposes and FIND Peace, OR "we" can Trust in our OWN plans, start walking in the "Vanity of our mind", thereby developing a NEGATIVE OUTLOOK or DISPOSITION and thus DEVELOPING A BITTER, and CYNICAL heart. We may NOT like our situation (and in MOST cases "we" WON'T), BUT, because WE "Are CHRISTIANS"; because we are a "Chosen Generation; because we are a Royal Priesthood; because we are a Holy Nation and a Peculiar People"...WE... "SHOULD"... LOVE...GOD and WE...MUST...TRUST..."HIS"...WILL FOR OUR LIVES! The Bible says "And going a little further, He threw Himself upon the ground on His face and prayed saying, My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass away from Me, nevertheless, not what I will [not what I desire], but as You will and desire" (Matt.26:39 AMP).
The Bible also says "For I know the thoughts and plans that I have for you, says the Lord, thoughts and plans for welfare and peace and not for evil, to give you hope in your final outcome" (Jer.29:11 AMP). Is that where the phrase "Trusting God's Purposes" came from......Hmmm?!!?
