The Socity of American Magicans Assembly 22,the Southern California Assembly,
has a long and rich history.
Assembly 22 was organized in 1930 by Roger Barkann,a student who moved to Los
Angeles from Philadelphia and missed the fellowship he enjoyed in a S.A.M.
Assembly.He gatherd a number of Los Angeles are magicians,including Bill Larsen,Sr.,T.Page Wright,Gerald Kosky,Bill Taylor and others to form an S.A.M.Assembly in Southern California.The membership in S.A.M.were all
sponsored by Barkann and Floyd G.Thayer,although Thayer himself was not a
chart member of Assembly 22.The S.A.M.National Council granted a charter for
Assrmbly 22 on march 7,1931.The Assembly grew rapidly in numbers and soon
become a Who's Who In Magic in Southern California.The Assembly has counted in its membership throughout the years many professional magicians,vaudeville stars,national presidents of S.A.M.and entertaners in the Hollywood film industry. The Southern California Assembly #22 continues to be a vital part of magic in Southern California.
