When the shy and unassuming Samba Tawe emerged in 1994 to take its first shakey and far from choreographed fledgeling steps on to the then quiet streets of Swansea who, other than those who put it all together in the first place (damn their eyes!), could ever have imagined that it would grow up to become the colourful, energetic, booty-shakin', rhythmically magnificent, traffic-stopping, shopper-agitating ensemble that has become so well known in parades, carnivals and pedestrian precints across the length and breadth of the country - today Wales, tomorrow the World!!
Combining the original percussion scores of Music Director Mestre Steve 'Gags' Garland with the exciting dance movements devised by Dance Director Rosalba Gambatesa, Samba Tawe is up there with the best when it comes to performing and our own brand of loud and energetic drumming and dancing ensures that our live performances never go unnoticed and help to make any event we are involved in a memorable one, and then some!
With the combined ranks of bateria and dancers now numbering over 60 members Samba Tawe perform across a wide area of South and South West Wales at all times of the year, come rain or shine.
We regularly performs at carnivals, festivals, busks, gigs, parties and civic events. In the last couple of years we have initiated our own events too, one of which - City Beats - is now an integral part of the Swansea Bay Summer Festival.
We can be seen (and definitely heard) performing regularly in the Swansea Bay area and occasionally further afield too! Check out our Gig List to see when and where we are next performing.

Using a collection of taiko drums made by themselves from discarded wine barrels, Tampa Taiko has developed a dynamic fusion of old and new styles of drumming, bringing a contemporary vibrance to an ancient martial artform.

Hi SambaTawe! Thanks for the add Our tradition since more than 200 years are the "Castells" (the humantowers), from Valls (Catalunya). These towers could have untill 9 levels with 2 people in each level. Around the tower you can find a group of people to suport the first few levels. This is from our group "Colla Joves Xiquets de Valls". Unsere Tradition ist seit mehr als 200 Jahren sind die "Castells" (die Menschentürme) aus Valls (Catalunya). Diese Türme bestehen aus 2 Personen pro Stockwerk und haben bis zum 9 Stockwerke. Um den Turm herum stehen viele Menschen zum Stützen. Das ist von unserer Gruppe "Colla Joves Xiquets de Valls".
