"An impressive emerging folk star" Rip It Up
Sydney-based singer/song writer Sam Buckingham has returned with a brand new EP 'GRAVITY'. Sam has already gained national attention through her two previous releases ’Daydreamer’ (2006) and ’My Own Horse’ (2008), which gained her immediate respect from music fans and industry alike. Sam has acquired finalist status twice in the Music Oz Awards and the International Songwriting Competition, National Alternative radio support and has also played along-side the likes of iOTA, Abby Dobson, Lior and Angus & Julia Stone. After a year of constant touring, Sam recently returned to the studio to create her new, self produced, third independent release.
“I guess the choice to self produce came from my desire to push myself and challenge my own skills – but also to make sure I did justice to each song in it's own way – and not let the story become anything other than what it was when I wrote it.”
Gravity's first single ‘Feel Like Walking‘, was inspired by Sam's favourite American Drama 'The O.C'. “I'm not ashamed to admit it – I am hooked on all kinds of American teen drama shows. I was in the middle of a DVD marathon and this song just popped out of nowhere. It wasn't until later I realised I'd kind of written it about the shows main characters, Marissa and Ryan. The first time I told that story on stage I went so red in the face I was so embarrassed! But then I realised, more than that, it was song about forgiveness and love and caring enough about a friendship to stand beside someone through the thick and thin - always”.
