| Bio | When you're watching Sam Demaris, you never know what to expect. His performances are very fast-paced, very high-energy and will often leave audiences wondering, "did he just say what I think he said?"
The answer is yes. Yes he most certainly did.
Even before deciding to explore his standup career, Sam Demaris already knew he wanted to be a performer. At the age of 14, he was accepted into Houston's High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and would later go on to be a theatre major at the University of Houston. He dropped out, but hey, he still went.
He started his comedy career in Houston, Texas and in 2002, he took home the gold in the Houston Laff Stop's "Houston's Funniest Person" competition in which he beat out a total of 65 other comedic hopefuls. He had only been doing comedy for one year at the time.
Since then, Sam has gone on to do countless gigs across the United States as well as a two week tour of South Korea to perform for the United States Army. A mind-blowing honor "you bet your ass I won't forget", he says.
Sam continues to tour the country, adding more shows, more cities, more memories and most importantly, more satisfied audiences to his collection (not to mention a whole lot of frequent flier miles). Check this guy out next time you get a chance and when you do, buy the man a beer. | | Influences | In 1997, HBO ran 6 straight hours of George Carlin and I recorded it and watched it over and over again. After about the third time I watched Carlin at Carnegie, I decided this was what I wanted to do. So I have to say he was my main influence. Of course I can't go any further without mentioning Richard Pyor as he is, in my opinion, the greatest ever. As far as the legends go, I have to say Bill Hicks, Redd Foxx, Eddie Murphy, and Sam Kinison. As for comics working present day, I think Daniel Tosh, Doug Stanhope, Bill Burr, Joe Rogan, Dave Attell, and Dave Chappelle are the funniest and most brilliant minds in the business. Since I started this whole comedic journey of mine, I have developed some new influences either because of what they've taught me or whatever else they've done to help me along. Bobby Slayton, Pablo Francisco, Aries Spears, Tom Rhodes, Tom Hester, Freddy Soto (R.I.P.), Adam Ferrara, Caroline Picard, Olivia Arrington, Joey "Coco" Diaz, Slade Ham, Ben Mowbray, Lindsey Hunt, and many more. |
