About me:
History: In the fall of 1909 the Sophomore Class at the College of the City of New York had found itself embarrassed by a lowly freshman group. At a school where "warfare" between freshman and sophomore classes is still a tradition, the sophomores found it necessary to regain their fallen honor. Class Marshal, Lester Cohen, thereupon called a meeting of sophomore leaders on November 26, 1909, to decide on a plan for redemption. Eight men appeared who are now known as the Founding Fathers.
A couple of weeks later the eight men agreed upon a name, Sigma Alpha Mu. The new Fraternity settled down to the accomplishment of the ideals which had prompted its creation. It was its aim to prove to the outside world that criticism and objectives leveled against fraternities in general were not applicable to Sigma Alpha Mu. The founders decided to plan and grow along lines different from those of existing fraternities.
Locally, at FIU the Delta Zeta chapter of Sigma Alpha Mu received its charter on January 20, 1991. In the time that Sigma Alpha Mu, also known as Sammy, has been at FIU, we have quickly grown to become the superpower among all fraternities, making Sammy the fraternity that all other are chasing to be on top. Sammy at FIU is truly the best at every aspect that makes a fraternity, whether it is athletics, brotherhood, campus involvement, philanthropy, or social life, Sigma Alpha Mu is the most dominating overall.
Sigma Alpha Mu currently has become the fraternity to beat in all intramural sports. We have won championships in many different sports along with six Intramural Sports Cups in a row, from the year 2000 to 2006. This accomplishment makes us the team to beat in all sports that we compete in.
We are also proud to say that we are by far the most diverse fraternity at FIU. With all this diversity we have the tightest knit group of men of all fraternities at FIU. We hold brotherhood events such as paintballing, basketball and football tournaments, fishing trips, an always imitated but never duplicated weekend long camping trip at Peace River, and many more. Sammy, simply put, has a brotherhood that all others covet.
Sammy's at FIU also pride themselves in their campus involvement. Our brothers have a wide spectrum of majors and are involved in a wide variety of organizations on campus, from the international medical fraternity to business fraternities, and from Panther Rage to SGA (Student Government Association). Sigma Alpha Mu has had more members be the President of SGA than any other fraternity or sorority on campus. Of the last 16 years, 12 of those years a brother of Sigma Alpha Mu has been the SGA President proving the fact that Sammy Governs All. Sammy also has the last three homecoming kings.
The Delta Zeta chapter of Sigma Alpha Mu is also host to many philanthropic events that raise money for Alzheimers Association; a couple examples would be our annual golf tournament and an event which we call "The Bachelor." Along with our own events our brothers participate in other philanthropic and community service events hosted by other organizations at FIU.
Finally Sammy's are among the most social men around campus. We are always one of the fraternities that all sororities want to mix with and do homecoming with. Sammy's also host some of the most infamous tailgates at FIU where all organizations throughout FIU come to enjoy such as our overnight tailgate. We also host various parties that the entire FIU community knows about such as our well known Sammy Foam Party every summer and much more.

Sigma Alpha Mu at FIU is open to men of all races, nationalities, and religions. Basically, if you would like to meet us, we would like to meet you. The decision you make on what fraternity you would like to join is an important one that will stick with you forever. We challenge you to check out all fraternities at FIU including Sammy, but guarantee that you will not find a stronger brotherhood than the one here at Sigma Alpha Mu's Delta Zeta chapter.
