I started playing the drums when I was 7 and met Buddy Rich (my main inspiration) when I was 10. I love jazz and played in the stage band in high school and won a few awards at the Reno Jazz Festival...lets just say sometime in the 70's. At 15 I was playing professionally with lots of country and western bands, R & B bands, and you name it. I met Greg Sage when I was just barely out of high school and we formed the Wipers with Dave Koupal in the late 70's. We recorded a couple of EP's and the album "Is This Real?" but I quit in 1980 or so. I played with Fred and Toody Cole for awhile in a pre-Dead Moon band called The Rats and recorded one album called "Intermittent Signals" before joining Chris Newman and Napalm Beach in 1981. Napalm toured all over Europe, recorded too many records to count on my fingers, and morphed into several incarnations (Snowbud and the Flower People, Divining Rods) all lead by Chris. After 23 years with Napalm lets just say I've "moved on" and here are some of the folks I'm playing with now...
DRUM LESSONS- - I've been giving lessons for over 30 years , and have had some award winning students. For info contact sam-henry-drum-studio.com Or myspace.
Morgan Grace - I first heard Morgan opening for Gothic Outhouse and her music knocked me right off my chair. I started working with her on a recording project she was doing with Sean Flora at Rocket Science and that pretty much turned into playing together all the time. our new line up features NEW bass player Laura Phillips. WE will be playing a TON of shows soon, So check out the shows caleder. You may have seen us on cable access tv or at MusicFestNW or just getting a donut at Voodoo Donuts (the magic is in the hole ya know)
Michael Dean Dameron, and Thee loyal bastards- I just Was bummin out at Dantes one night and Mike aproached me and asked if i would be interested in playing drums for a new band he was starting . I said yes of course ( what any smart drummer says when a great songwriter asks them to play). So the next week we were putting together a band and the week after that we were recording a new album , I think the week after that we were booked on a 3 week tour for the month of march . What can I say except REEP THE WHIRLWIND . and here it goes.......
"All to Know" and "Last Chance" are songs I wrote a long time ago. I'm singing and playing all the instruments except for the guitar solo played by Howard Gee who also engineered the recordings. "Organ overkill W/drum solo"I recorded this in 2001 . also me playing all the inst's I start all these one person recordings with the drums , then add bass and what ever comes next." Its only you" and " Oh I Want YOU" are from the new Morgan Grace album The Sound Of Something Breaking also recorded by Howard.
Here's just a few of the great albums I've played on -
you have played in 2 of my favourite bands , napalm beach and wipers!! gl gl gl and your new music sounds gooood... i have been long looking for the napalm beach "rock and roll hell" album but it is impossible, any idea where could I buy a copy?
I would try to get you to come down to SF for the Pioneers of Punk show, but it looks like you're playing that weekend...:( Anyway, it always cheers me up to get your sweet text messages. You are so foxy.
Hey Sam,perhaps you are thinking.......I wish a band would cultivate a new sound like mystical fantasy grunge wave and put on a killer show with giant puppets that dirty dance like wild wizards doing sex battle with herds of unicorns juiced up on teenage sugar wolf pills? Well it's here my friends. Finally this is the show for you!
hey sammy, miss you, sorry we haven't talked lately just been in my own little world. i have a new number, you can get it from Valerie if you see her at a show or i'll right later when i have more minutes and give it to you. hope all is well, love ya, niki
