Samirah Al-Amrie verbrachte ein Jahr in Stockholm; das inspiriert: Die Stücke in dem aktuellen Programm hat die halbarabische, in Berlin lebende Sängerin in Schweden geschrieben. Dort gab sie auch erfolgreich ihre ersten Konzerte. Ihre Musik erinnert an eine Mischung aus Joni Mitchell, Tori Amos, Kate Bush und ist ganz viel Samirah Al-Amrie selbst. Sie vermischt experimentellen Jazz mit Pop, ein bischen Tango- oder Oriental-Feeling, und singt ein paar Stücke auch nur mal im Duo mit ihrer Bassistin.
Ihre Musik trifft mitten in‘s Herz, da diese auch genau dort herkommt und lässt den Zuhörer mit lachen und leiden.
I believe in music. I always did I guess. Even as a little girl when I stood in front of the TV with a spoon as a mic in my hands and tried to imitate the singers. And now, maybe 25 years later, I passed all my diplom exams and can say- hey, I am a graduated musician... But to be honest- what does that say about my music, my passion? Almost nothing...I like to put different styles together. Not because I think that's the hip way to do, but because I have so many influences in me that it just happens. My father is half arabic, half indonesian and my mother is german, from east Germany and there I was born. I grew up in Cologne with celebrating "Kölner Karneval" every year (imagine me speaking "Kölsch", hehe!!), started playing Capoeira and dancing Flamenco while I was living in Hamburg and kept on loving those things until now. What I miss in my musical life is the arabic music. But it's good to set oneself a target and I hope I can reach mine which is singing in arabic with understanding every word and beeing able to speak arabic...We'll see, but now I am looking forward to the next concerts and hey- if you have a label- I am still searchnig!!
