When Sam Kearney finally decided to buckle down and do something with her talents she never knew that music would test so many boundries. Sweat, perseverance and quite a lot of ego damage goes into creating every one of her babies. Although each test just makes for stronger writing and each step is indeed helping her inspired seeds to grow. Always having the romantic notion that songs should just pour out of her without any effort makes things even more difficult for the 26 year old.

Raised in a small town that is drenched in cabaret groups, Sam decided to try and write original material instead and has adapted her own style, with help from influences such as Ani Difranco, Tori Amos, Fiona Apple, Erin McKeown, Pearl Jam, Nine Inch Nails, Tool and the earlier findings of Fleetwood Mac, Annie Lennox, Pink Floyd, The Beatles and of course the late Tammy Wynette. Having all this eclectic diversity to add to her own pot of musical magic allows for a vast range of intriguing melodies and an ever-changing guitar style.

For the past year Sam has been travelling around the UK with ‘Nel’ her new guitar performing at venues both large and small. She is familiar with all the well known haunts of Liverpool; Zanzibar, Barfly, the famous Cavern Club, 3345 Parr St and also the smaller but established gig nights; Cheap Thrills, Stamps and Mellowtone.
Finding her feet in all the major cities in Britain has been an excellent adventure that is far from over. Manchester brought her to Night ‘N’ Day, Dry Bar and many of the more underground gigs that lay lurking in the back streets. Also, London, to the cosy rooms of the Marie Lloyd Bar, Chocolate Lounge and Candy Bar.

Festivals bring out the extrovert side of this woman’s character, she loves nothing more than performing in the sunshine, beer at her feet, entertaining the masses with the smell of nature all around her. Sam has partaken in Oxton Festival 04/05, Coniston ‘Music with a View’, Veggie Camp, Wimfest, Pink Festival, QtP, London Vegan Fest and also both Brighton and Manchester pride events. She is sure to turn up at a field near you.

As if all this traveling and creating wasn’t enough, Sam’s pastime activity involves getting together with fellow musician Jo Bywater and organizing their gig night ‘FlyTrap’. This successful night always has a twist to it and has the audience going home thinking about mooncups, p-mates and any other bizarre creation we think worthy of the night. Always a talented event, check out: www.myspace.com/flytrapmusicuk for more details.

Ms Kearney has just finished recording her new demo ‘Unlearn’ and will be releasing an EP in Spring 2008. She is currently working with three other musicians (Jo Bywater, Jess Hughes and Sam Leigh) and is aiming to have their involvement on the project. Her song ‘Journey’ has also been included on a compilation CD by the Mixomatosis crew @ Bar Cava.
