Samuel's Interests
|
| General | I was born in Hong Kong, came over to the States when I was 3 years old and was raised in Dallas. I have spent 11 years in the East Coast for training but now back in Dallas. My sister, Vina, is a web designer in New York, who is married to Matt, an attorney for a Hedge Fund. My mom, Carol, is my office manager and developed my building, the Willow Bend Wellness Center. My father, Sam, passed away 2 years ago and was a family doctor here in Dallas for 30 plus years. He was married to my mom for 40 plus years before he passed. | | Music | Coldplay, Keane, Leigh Nash, U2, Damien Rice (the older album, O), Death Cab for Cutie (not the new one. it sucks), Cocteau Twins (for you guys old enough to know what that is), Cowboy Junkies (ditto), the Killers, Luna, Mazzy Star, Morrissey/The Smiths, Sarah McLachlan, Sigur Rós, Franz Schubert (the original dude), Beethoven (Ludwig Van not Camper), Allison Moorer, the Jayhawks, Shania Twain (okay, obviously not cool but who cares), Aya, Chemical Brothers, Miguel Migs, Moby, Susie Suh, Tara MacLean, Ella Fitzgerald (okay, leave me alone), Ana Moura (cool Fado music from Portugal), Ibrahim Ferrer, La Oreja de Van Gogh (awesome Spanish pop from Spain), Shakira (before the hips don't lie and the English crap. I'm talking first two albums in Spanish.), Bonnie McKee, Carla Bruni (yes, the French president's wife), Dido, Jack Johnson, Janet Jackson (ol' school version), Justin Timberlake, Natalie Imbruglia (okay, another uncool selection, Nelly Furtado (hot, need I say more), Rachael Yamagata (ditto), Texas (awesome band besides the hot singer. You have got to listen to this Scottish band if you have not heard them.), Joss Stone (first album), Sade, Bob Marley, the Beatles, Brandi Carlile, Bruce "the Boss" Springsteen, Carla Werner, CCR, the Cure, the Eagles, James Blunt (but sort of sick of his crap now), Journey (yeah baby!), Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Lenny Kravitz, Oasis (really just What's the Story Morning Glory? Nothing before or after.), Peter Gabriel, Ryan Adams | | Movies | After Hours (Scorsese), Cinema Paradiso, Die Hard, Purple Noon, any movie by Amoldovar, City of God (wow!), Meet the Parents, There's Something About Mary, Boogie Nights, Open Your Eyes (the original Spanish version), Fargo, Braveheart, Casino, Goodfellas, Citizen Kane, The Third Man, Star Wars, the Empire Strikes Back, the Graduate, Annie Hall (actually almost any Woody Allen movie except his dramas), Rear Window/North by Northwest (almost any Hitchcock), Four Weddings and a Funeral, Glengarry Glen Ross, any John Woo HK action flick with Chow Yun-Fat, the Untouchables, Brazil, Amadeus, This is Spinal Tap, Scarface, an American Werewolf in London, Camille Claudel (really for Isabelle Adjani), History of Violence, Eastern Promises, Layer Cake, Jean de Florette/Manon of the Springs, Rashomon, the Battle of Algiers, the Mission, the Lover, Million Dollar Baby, the Godfather Part II, Casablanca, Il Mostro, Mon Oncle, Amores Perros | | Television | The Office, the Tonight Show (okay lame but don't watch that much quality tv). can't think of anything else. | | Books | 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership (Maxwell), Blink/Tipping Point (Gladwell), The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle (Murakami), Of Human Bondage (Maugham), Atonement (McEwan), Good to Great/Built to Last (Collins), Blue Ocean Strategy, Leading at a Higher Level (Blanchard), any Steinbeck novel, especially East of Eden and Cannery Row, books by Mishima, Catch-22, George Orwell's 1984, Lolita (Nabokov), Tropic of Cancer, the Age of Innocence, any Milan Kundera, The Fountainhead | | Heroes | my dad |

About me:
Dr. Lam was raised in Dallas and finished his secondary education at Cistercian Preparatory School, where he graduated as Valedictorian. He completed his undergraduate studies at Princeton University graduating with a Cum Laude distinction, and his medical school at Baylor College of Medicine, where he received the distinction from his peers of the Bobby R. Alford Award for outstanding achievement in otolaryngology-head & neck surgery. He then trained for six years at Columbia University in head and neck surgery. After completion of his residency, he pursued a competitive post-graduate fellowship in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery in New York.
He is board certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, the American Board of Otolaryngology serving the specialty of Head & Neck Surgery, and the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery. He is also a fellow member of the American Academy of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery and a fellow member of the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Lam has authored over 100 scientific papers and book chapters and has had many of his articles translated into French and Spanish (both of which he speaks). He has completed work on five major textbooks, Comprehensive Facial Rejuvenation (Lippincott, 2003), Cosmetic Surgery of the Asian Face (Thieme Medical Publishers, New York, NY, 2005), Complementary Fat Grafting (Lippincott, Williams, and Wilkins, Philadelphia, PA, 2006), Simplified Facial Rejuvenation (Springer Verlag, New York, NY, 2007) and Aging Face: The New Paradigm (Elsevier, Philadelphia, PA, 2009).
Dr. Lam is also the 2002 recipient of the John Orlando Roe Research Award for his work on skin rejuvenation presented to him by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Foundation. Dr. Lam has lectured over 100 times both nationally and internationally on numerous scientific topics and has been a course instructor for local, national, and international courses on the aging face as well as performed live surgical demonstrations on the latest, most advanced rejuvenation surgeries in front of hundreds of plastic surgeons.
Dr. Lam is unique in the industry for his pioneering work in creating the 27,000 square-foot Willow Bend Wellness Center from the ground up. He is an accomplished and published photographer and illustrator. He completed all of the illustrations for his three medical textbooks along with many drawings for his scientific articles and book chapters. He enjoys painting during his free time and has on display over 150 of his original paintings in the new wellness center.
