Saxophonist Sammie Roberts has been performing with numerous jazz musicians since the 1990's. In addition to jazz standards and ballads, his quartet also performs arrangements of popular blues, soul and funk tunes.
Sammie was raised on the East coast, mainly in Brooklyn, New York. At the age of 16, he began playing the trumpet. As an adult he switched to his primary instrument-the alto saxophone. Shortly after, he began performing with small ensembles in various musical settings. In 1979, Sammie Relocated to Charleston South Carolina and studied with local musician tenor, soprano saxophonist Cecil Alston.
During the late 1980's, Sammie met legendary Be-bop saxophonist Frank Morgan and was inspired and encouraged to hone his skill along with his natural ability "Practice, practice, practice and more practice."
Since moving to Southern California in 1999 where he now resides, Sammie has maintained his passion for Jazz and elevated his playing to include "recording" artist with his debut release "My Voice" ...Living the Dream and performs various venues small and large alike.
