Born and raised in northeast Portland. My mother taught me how to play E, A, C, G and D chords on the guitar, and from there I never turned back. I fell in love with the blues when I was 12 after watching my Mom's video of "Stevie Ray Vaughaun- Live at Austin City Limits." Started jamming with my brothers Stan and Ben in middle school. Had a great jam band last summer. Aaron the other, quite exceptional guitarist, and Myles- the beat man, left for college last fall. We never made it out of the basement but since we played almost every day, none of us cared. I started taking lessons with Thad Beckman about 6 years back, he taught the essentials of the blues and put up with my youngster behavior. I will always remember him saying, "anyone can shred, its all about soul and finding the rhythm with the rest of the fellas." This is something I carry with me today and will constantly learn more every time I play. I absolutely love playing live, the feeling I get is unexplainable. About 5 months ago, I started taking lessons from Robbie Laws (Portland's Guitar Legend) and he was kind enough to refer me to my first "ligit" show- The Rogue River Valley Blues Fest. In preparation, I was lucky enough to meet Mac Potts, Sam Low, and Taylor Eaton. These guys had a lot of experience playing with outstanding blues musicians, and they have taught me a lot. I'm playing around town with these guys, entering a few competitoins, and takin it day by day. The music that was created within our performances gives a little taste of everything we have grown up with. I was raised on a plethora of Soul, Hip Hop, Blues, Funk, Rock, and really everything, the Tower of Power, Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters, Clapton, Neville Brothers, The Crusaders, The Band, Jimi, Santana, James Brown, Parliment, The Ohio Playas, Stevie, Nas, Scholars, ... (the list goes on forever) helped shape my musical life. My five, well brothers, since I've known them since day one, constantly argued, laid down facts and conversed about the hip hop music scene. Although I didn't fully participate in the conversations, the music has had a huge impact on my sense of rythym, soul and feeling. There will always be the blues, and the great music of the past to build on, and for years ahead, my goal is to share my love, passion and soul with everybody who cares to listen.
