Sorry to sound like an old geezer, but the 70's had some hot movies man!
The Godfather, All the President's Men, Network, Star Wars
There are others too, but that ain't my main thing at the moment...
Television
Besides 1 or 2 programs, TV is all bad. Stay away from it
Books
Books are good. Read them.
Heroes
Jazz artists who fight for the true cause, even though they will never make a million.
People who have a mind of their own in this brain-washed world.
My mom, for being my mom
About me: What can I tell you about that you find interesting...?
I was actively listening & devouring music since the age of 8 and bought my first record at age 12.
My initial musical experiences were buying jazz and fusion allbums by the 'usual suspects' Bob James, Herbie Hancock, Ahmad Jamal, Joe Henderson, Roy Ayers, Lonnie Liston Smith etc. etc. etc.
I was a quiet and introverted child, so didn't go out much to experience the local music scene, but the upside of that was that I stayed at home and listened to radio checking out anything of a jazz nature, and so listened to orchestral and ensemble type works by Gil Evans, Mike Westbrook and Neil Ardley, and featuring people like Harry Beckett and Norma Winstone.
My weekly radio show is about presenting the best in a wide range of jazz and dance based music with elements of almost eveything else thrown in for good measure.
Whilst I will always salute those that are the pioneers of jazz, soul & fusion music, we firmly support what is happening now with some very bright and creative artists, producers, rappers and beatmakers from around the world.
Some of the people we respect and humbly play their offerings on air are:
Marcina Arnold, Eska, Robert Mitchell, N-Side (The Blessed One), The Sugar Beats, Kaidi Tatham, Nostalgia 77, Antibalas, DJ Mitsu-The Beats, Jazztronik, Maurice Fulton, Lizzy Parks, MAW, Blaze, RedNose Distrikt, Silhouette Brown, Moodymann, Dego, Marc Mac, Theo Parrish, Sleepwaker, Dimlite & Forss... but that's only a few names, because it grows daily
