Originally from Birmingham, Alabama, Sammy started SPF 7 in 2001. He holds a B.F.A. in Theatre from Shorter College and an M.F.A. in Acting from Catholic University. As a comedian, Sammy won the 2005 Battle of the Bay Comedy Competition at the San Jose Improv and continues to hold the very relative title of “The Funniest Person in the Bay Area.” When he’s not performing comedy, he also directs and writes for the critically acclaimed political sketch group, Richter Scale. In addition, Sammy hosts the daily podcast, Houndcast. He has performed at theatres, comedy clubs, and festivals all over North America, including the Chicago Improv Festival, the San Francisco Theater Festival, Stand Up NY, the St. Louis Fringe Festival, Washington D.C.’s The Shakespeare Theatre, the San Francisco Improv Festival, Gotham Comedy Club, dccomedyfest!, the Bay Area Comedy
Festival, and the Toronto International Improv Festival. Sammy has taught and performed comedy at several universities across the country as well as at several companies, including Georgetown University, Old Dominion University, the American College Theatre Festival, dccomedyfest!, The Princenton Review, Clickatell and NBC Universal. Sammy is the Associate Artistic Director of the Seaside Repertory Theatre in Seaside, Florida and the Executive Producer of the Gulf Coast Comedy Festival. Sammy has appeared in several of SPF 7’s short films and viral videos, including Legdrop and Citizen Hero.
