BIO

This is producer and engineer SAMUEL JAMES JOHNSON's page, set up mainly for research info, and a contact point for bands looking to record. I will try to keep a varied list of songs to represent multiple styles and mix approaches. Above are recent mixes, and below are recent bands I have worked with (If you want to hear more). Also for interstaters and out of towners - Three Phase Studios (where I do the bulk of my work in melbourne) now has accommodation available. Call them at the studio on (03) 9380 5884 for booking or accommodation availability.

Don't expect a sales pitch here, but if you need to know any more - feel free to message me. If you want a Three Phase gear list, look at the blog (SSL), or check out their new myspace page up soon (with a pretty new polished hardwood floor, desk, monitoring etc). I also have a discog from the last few years.

If I sound familiar outside the studio, it may be from touring (FOH mix, stage manager, tour manager) or from one of my past or present bands...

Down to Size - Guitar, Drums (Hard rock/Metal)
Tiny Houses - Drums, Bass, Guitar, Keys (Ambient)
This Time Tomorrow - Bass (Post punk)
Walk The Earth - Bass (Metal)
S.E.O.D - Drums, BV's (Space rock)
Jess McAvoy - Bass (Folk)
Lead Sketch Union - Bass (Folk Punk)
Coue' Method - Drums (Punk rock)
Black is the colour - Drums, perc (Folk Punk/ Accoustic)

" We’ve all had some bad recording experiences in the past, so it was great working with Sam who knows how you sound and has a great approach to working with bands in a studio environment…..he’s a very patient guy!" - A Death in the Family.

" Recording with Sam Johnson, a man well versed in this gritty style of punk.... really lends FROM THE FLOOR UP (The Gifthorse) more of a natural, organic feel that really benefits the sounds on offer." - Blunt magazine.

" Trapped Under Fire (Tenth Dan) - One of the most unrelenting albums ever made in Australia..... an Australian classic " - Nigel Melder (Mindsnare).
