While Samo Sound Boy represents the fresh crop of west coast club music producers, his roots are def steeped in the east coast. Born in New York City in 1984, he spent his youth fixated on the seminal hip-hop of the mid-nineties. Fast forward to 2005 where Samo spent a year living Buenos Aires, Argentina. There he learned to DJ from experimental cumbia producers at Fugees 99, a Nigerian owned dancehall in the city’s south end. Returning to New York, Samo continued DJing and started working for Diplo’s brand, then fledgling Mad Decent Records, as a record stamper/van driver. Now living in LA, when Samo isn’t DJing he is turning the heat up on his own productions and remixes. Samo receives the final stamp of approval from my two year old son Julien who continues to demand Samo’s version of Watch My Feet whenever I crank up the music...
