Influences
Janis Joplin, Melanie Safka, Patty Griffin, Robert Plant, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Free, Led Zeppelin, Lucinda Williams, Simon and Garfunkel, Shawn Colvin, David Gates, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bonnie Raitt, John Lennon,Dido,Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, Jackson Browne, Alison Krauss... too many to remember given that I have the memory of a gnat, and certainly too many to list
This is the part where I'm supposed to blow my own trumpet (or, in my case, pluck my own guitar strings), something that I have endless trouble
doing.
I'm a singer/songwriter/guitarist (well, I play the guitar anyway), I've been playing for around 15 years and writing songs since the age of 14.
Before branching out on my own, I was part of several bands, mostly Rythym n Blues (for those of you who had any doubts, no I wasn't inflicting my lead playing on a live audience).
The music I write reflects what is important to me... maybe that's an admission of disappearing somewhat up my own arse, but hey, you have to be inspired by something, and my tunes tend to revolve around the strange goings on in the crazy world of Samantha Redington (like Arthur Brown but without the firey helmet).
My influences are probably too numerous to list, the main ones being other strange, guitar slinging women (Melanie Safka, Lucinda Williams, Patty Griffin) with a dash of Led Zeppelin thrown in for good measure.
But, enough of my idle rantings... listen to what I do, it'll give you a better idea of who I am than me rambling on for another decade about me glorious me... judge for yourselves.
