About me: Art is freedom, I love the freedom & creative pleasure it brings to me, I hope my work brings the same pleasure to those who view it.
I studied at Leonardo Da-Vinchi academy of art, and worked as a street artist in Montmart Paris in the seventies. On coming to London I choose to do different occupations.
In May 2007 after a conversation with Kate Moss,I was inspired to return to art,it's from a meeting at Jazz After Dark (www.jazzafterdark.co.uk), when Pete Doherty had a gig, that Kate encouraged me to resume painting. She was impressed with my work & requested me to do her portrait, I was very honoured to be in her company and privileged that such a beautiful lady requested me to portray her.I also noticed that she has a keen interest in good art.
Unfortunately before I had completed the painting Kate & Pete split up.
An article within the Mail on Sunday of 13th Aug 07, documented the painting and Kate and Pete's split. The painting remained with me untill finally Pete came to buy it.
Since that inital portrait, I have gone on to paint many of today's most discussed figures, some controversial, but always painted with respect.
You dont have to be a celebrity to commission me.All my work is done with oil on canvas. To date I have completed 60 portraits they are now available for viewing on my personal web site,www.artbysamshaker.co.uk
