Sam's the Hero Bio
In the Spring of 2006, three friends from Virginia Beach finally got it right. After several years of different bands, names, and members Sam’s the Hero was born. Jeff Riggs, Neil Donohue, and Corey McCook (who replaced founding drummer, Jon Carolino, in ‘07) and their signature brand of catchy pop punk will bring you back to a time when music was all about how much fun you could have playing it.
“Our band is really all about loving what we’re doing,” says frontman Riggs. “We don’t set out to make ‘high art’ and we’re not trying to change the face of the music scene. We’re playing what we love and having fun doing it.” A fact that is quite apparent as, musically, Sam’s the Hero is the equivalent of a high five.
Lyrically their songs focus heavily on relationships: relationships with girls, friends, and God. “We try to write music that means something to us,” Donohue states. “That means coming to terms with faith in our every day lives. It's still girls and jobs and traffic but with the reality of faith behind it.” These three video game lovers hope to bring their positive, feel-good spirit to a music scene that’s currently plagued by negativity, depression, and fabricated angst. With a catalog of infectious songs, an awesome live show, and a lot of drive they may be just what the scene needs.
