J Allen Mitchell and Matteus Vaga met several years ago. They played together in a five-piece rock band. One day, everybody else missed practice. They went down to Cadillac Jack's in Lake City and, after a couple drinks, Samurai Bow was formed. They play Zen Americana music showcasing the Vaga's spidery electric cello and Mitchell's yearning vocals.
Since 2005, Samurai Bow has been playing numerous venues throughout the Seattle area. In April, 2008 they recorded their ten-song album "Skin in the Game," in 12 takes with Scott Ross at Elliott Bay Recording. Get it. You'll love it.
In June of 2008, they teamed up with Takashi Fujisawa on bass and played several shows in Seattle and Tacoma. Since November, Skin Richards has played percussion in the live shows. They released 'Skin in the Game' at a small party in the Jewel Box Theater in January, 2009, with the full band. It was, alas, to be Takashi's last Samurai Bow show as he has returned to Japan.
After woodshedding for three months or so as a 3-piece, they threw together a 3-song demo including 'Alabama', 'Up on to the Plain' and a new version of 'Time to Go' in April, 2009. Now booking shows for Summer in the Northwest.
