Sam Signed to Disappear Records: Sam I Am
Sam met Grammy nominee and world music artist, SONiA of disappear fear on the FODfest tour along with many talented musicians. SONiA invited him to perform on her songs at each venue and at other events. Sam is privileged to have signed with Disappear records and work with SONiA who produced and performs on Sam’s first CD- Sam I Am- which will be released on Feb 16, 2010. All profits will go to the Daniel Pearl Foundation and FODfest. SAM WEISER is a multiple award winning violinist in classical and alternative strings. He is a highly versatile, teen string musician and the first student ever to be accepted as a full double major in classical and jazz violin at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music PreCollege Division Program.
CLASSICAL Strings Sam began studying classical violin at age three. By ten he became a Concertmaster at Norwalk Youth Symphony. He served as Concertmaster of two Norwalk Youth Symphony orchestras from 2004-2007 and in 2008 he was chosen as the youngest first violinist in the Principal Orchestra. He was also named Concertmaster of the Fairfield County Honors Orchestra (2006), Concertmaster of BMS Honors Chamber Orchestra and he was chosen as the Future Stars Soloist for the CT Alliance for Music. He was Principal Violist for BMS Orchestra for three years. Sam also loves Chamber music. He has been the first violinist of the Apollo Quartet for four years under the guidance of the Lumina Quartet and former New York Philharmonic violinist Asya Meshberg. Sam studies Chamber music in the summers with Prof. Wendy Sharp of Yale University at California Summer Music. He has been a first violinist at Elm City ChamberFest, The Institute for Young Musicians, KinHaven Music School and many others. Sam currently studies privately with the world renowned educator, Patinka Kopec in New York City.
ALTERNATIVE Strings
Sam attended his first Mark O’Connor Fiddle Camp in Nashville seven years ago where he was introduced to string music in multiple genres. His exposure to the variety, talent and vitality there began an artistic journey that frees him to embrace all music on the violin without boundaries. He continues to attend Mark’s unparalleled camps ever since including The San Diego Strings Conference and New York City Camp. Sam has been honored to perform with Mark in the American String Celebration Tours and fundraisers for the camps. Sam was featured in a recent
video piece about Mark O’Connor at time.com filmed at an April 2009 performance at the Egg in Albany. Sam is the 2009/10 American String Teachers Association ALTERNATIVE STYLES AWARD WINNER, Junior Division (14-18). He was the runner up in 2007. Sam experiments with jazz, old time, bluegrass, folk, rock and world music at concerts and at jams. Sam first formally studied jazz at Brian Torff’s Fairfield University summer program in 2007 and now studies jazz violin with recording artist and jazz violinist Sara Caswell in New York City.
2008/2009 DANIEL PEARL MEMORIAL VIOLIN RECIPIENT Daniel Pearl was a journalist and musician murdered in Pakistan in 2002. Luthier Jonathan Cooper crafted and donated The Daniel Pearl Memorial violin which is awarded each year to outstanding young musicians by a committee. Sam is honored to have received the violin this past year. He will continue to promote the mission of the Daniel Pearl Foundation using the power of music to promote tolerance and inspire respect for differences. He will again perform at FODFest in honor of Daniel Pearl.
