• Bio

You might pinpoint the formation of San Angelus to a These Arms Are Snakes show at the Knitting Factory in Hollywood, CA on Dec 17, 2008 – an event where Kim Kinakin (ex-Sparkmarker) and Mark Holcomb (ex-Shift & Undertow) were introduced to Larry Herweg (Pelican).

Bonding on current and previous musical projects – the 3 quickly discovered a common history, a crossing of paths and a language of similar musical references that helped facilitate an impressive chain of events in the following months.

By January 0f 2009 the three met over drinks at Hollywood's legendary Frolic Room to discuss ideas of playing music together. The following week Kim and Mark moved their dusty guitar gear into Larry's jam-space and shared musical ideas that would become the bands first couple of songs.

The natural flow of writing and over-all general excitement of the songs was not overlooked in the slightest. Even when, 2 weeks later, Kim had decided to start making plans to move back to Vancouver.

Rather than put the project to rest, the three men decided to continue to jam and write songs until that time. Optimism for the project and the first hand insight and experience of Larry's long-distance relationship with Pelican (Chicago & LA) fueled the belief in this new band's possibility.

With about 7 songs under their belt the 3 musicians agreed to record these songs in Seattle where Pelican would be recording their LP 'What We All Come To Need' with Chris Common as engineer at Red Room Studios.

Kim moved and soon after met with Jason Craig (ex-Sparkmarker) in Vancouver for a series of living-room rehearsals, which solidified the arrangement of songs with the exciting addition of bass guitar.

Aug. 5th, the four members arrived in Seattle and practiced for the first time as a four-piece. Only 2 short rehearsals and into the studio they went – laying the bed-tracks for their first recording.

The name San Angeles started of as a play on words and languages (without angels) and once researched on the internet, discovered to be a name coined in the original screen adaptation for Blade Runner as a futuristic/megapolis Los Angeles.

It was decided that the band would carry San Angelus (spelling deviation to secure website uniqueness) as it's name and call this recording 'Soon We'll All Be Ghosts' (a misquoted Chavez lyric) as it was the runner-up for the band name.

The band is currently working on finishing up the recording for 2011 and hoping to play some shows soon after it's release.
