Sanctrum - Writing New Songs!

About us

Up until 2003 the band didn’t do a whole lot in terms of actual production, we mostly rehearsed covers and made simple demo recordings in the little garage we used for a rehearsal studio. Early 2003, however, brought about the start of the band becoming a lot more serious. After parting ways with our former vocalist, we enlisted Irfan as a member of the band and started setting our aims a lot higher. Shortly after Irfan’s joining the band, a more elaborate recording of three to this day unreleased songs was made and the band started coming together very well as a group of like minded musicians. In the wake of that demo, we got to play gigs all over the country and really got a feel of what it means to be in a metal band.

In the end of 2005 we took it up a notch and recorded the “From Ashes to Infinity”-EP, which we intended to release but never got around to. Like its predecessor, it opened up new doors for the band and we quickly got more offers for playing live at different venues around Sweden.

It was announced in the spring of 2006 that Sanctrum had been selected to play live at the Rookie stage of Sweden’s biggest festival, the Hultsfred festival. The band went on, played, and left the stage with some great reviews, things seemed to be building some momentum. During the same year, the band participated in several music contest and consistently earned high placings, albeit no victories.

In 2007 the spirit of competition took the band to the south to participate in Spain’s biggest music contest, namely the Bilborock contest of Bilbao. Sanctrum placed third in the metal section of the contest, and was the only Swedish band to participate in the contest. Later in 2007 five new brand songs were recorded, which would, along with the ones from the previously unreleased EP come to form the band’s first full length album, “In Harm’s Way”

In 2008 a one record contract with Metalcast Records was signed and the album was released in several countries, including U.S.A. and Canada. Sanctrum also recorded its first music video for the opening track from the album, “Dead Inside”. In the early spring the band went on a small tour through Sweden and Norway with metalcore maniacs Centurion; and in the fall a similar tour with our Diamond worshipping friends in Icons of Horror, this time through Sweden and Denmark.

In 2009, due to irreconcilable differences, the band parted ways with its former record label, and made their debut album available for free download via Myspace.

We are currently in the process of writing our second full length album, this time we’ll crank it up a notch.
