Sanctum was formed in September of 1998 by guitarist John Demille and drummer Greg Seymour. The two of them had known each other since 1985 and had mutual friends. When they first got together to jam in 1998 already knowing one another made things that much easier. That first jam proved that they were on the same page, as they had already written their first song. Their search for other musicians to complete the lineup would prove to be a lot harder than they thought. April 2002 a second guitarist is found, Chad Capper. The trio practiced for about six months and then in November decided to use the sixteen hours of studio time that Chad had coming to him and lay down drum and guitar tracks to six of their songs. The search for a vocalist and bassist continued. In February of 2004 a vocalist was found (Vince Meyer), Vince shared the same love of metal music as the others and found that the music they were creating was perfect for him to put lyrics to. November 2004 the band entered Monastic Chambers studios to complete the recording that they had started two years before. In addition to Vince on vocals the band had found someone to play bass on the recording, a long time friend of Vince’s, Nick Thieme. After completing the recording Nick agreed to join the band and stayed on for about seven months. Not long after Nick’s departure Chad would also leave the band, his work schedule proved too much and left him little time for much else. Another year would pass before Sanctum’s lineup would be complete and in that time it was decided to keep just one guitar and find a player who could fill in the voids on bass. In early 2006 that person was found in Dave Bird, the style in which Dave approached the bass gave the band a full sound without a second guitarist. 2006 also saw the release of the bands self titled debut e.p. “Sanctum” the disc contains six songs and clocks in at thirty nine minutes. Most of the band’s songs are six to eight minutes long say’s Greg, but if you are someone who can appreciate music that’s beyond the gay shit that most corporate “rock” stations force down the mindless masses throats then you can probably find something of ours that you’ll like. April 2009 finds Sanctum in the process of putting together their second album which will contain eight or nine songs and once again take the listener on a journey into the darkest depths of your mind and back……………………….maybe.
