    .. .. .. ....Andraste is the solo project of UK based Rachel Iden (Speight), who gained recognition in the 1990's as a songwriter and vocalist in Die Laughing. The Andraste sound is a heady and rich eclectic blend of influences ranging from traditional Gothic and alternative metal through to futurepop and darkwave..... ..Formed in 2009 under the working title of Hedera, Rachel began writing and recording again for the first time in a decade. Hedera was chosen due to ivy being such an enduring symbol of life which can grow and survive in any environment, and had been a strong constant used by Rachel in Die Laughing artwork over the years. As the project developed however, a much stronger resonance developed with Andraste - an ancient and great British warrior goddess called upon by Boudica during her battle against Roman occupation... ..The demo track “Alea Iacta Est’ was released to a limited number of DJs in 2009 and has received an overwhelmingly positive response via MySpace and through club play. Since then, several more tracks have been written which tell the story of the light and shade in one woman's life. Rachel is an established artist and illustrator with many of the song themes and stories crossing onto canvas and screen, which adds to the creative experience of the project... ..A demo album release is planned for summer 2010 with booking under way for live dates across the UK and Europe.
