Sandhill was founded by Iraqi-Canadian brothers Habillis and Nofy Fannan in 2000. They were the musical force behind the groundbreaking and internationally acclaimed Iraqi hip-hop group Euphrates, which they formed with premier Arab mc and childhood friend the Narcicyst. Between 2002 and 2004 Sandhill produced two critically successful Euphrates albums, ‘A Bend in The River’ and ‘Stereotypes Incorporated’, in addition to scoring ‘Voices of Iraq’, a cutting-edge documentary distributed theatrically by Mark Cuban’s Magnolia Pictures. Their work garnered the attention of major media outlets such as Time magazine, Variety, The New York Times, BBC, and CBC, as well as that of celebrated hip-hop historian and DJ Davey D. Furthermore, Euphrates opened for the likes of Talib Kweli, Non-Phixion, DJ A-Trak, J-Live, Brother Ali, and Kanye West, among others.
However, everything fell apart in late 2004 following the sudden and tragic passing of Euphrates co-founder and mentor Nofy Fannan. As a result, Euphrates disbanded and currently the Narcicyst and Habillis are each pursuing solo careers while often collaborating. Following a two-year break from music, Habillis rediscovered his passion for music, and equipped with a BA in Communication Studies, is now working as a freelance music producer and sound designer under the Sandhill moniker in memory of his older brother.
